It's simple. You contact the company that manufactures the product and ask they use BPA. If they reply 'no' then fine. If they don't reply then, yes, they use BPA.

There are no pure and totally reliable sources of information but suppose we could somehow 'debias' and purify an existing source. Suppose we then listened only to it and ignored all the other sources. We could still be led astr

>And another thing: Only geniuses (or cranks) head straight for the grandest and most fundamental problems. You should multiply the importance of the problem by the probability that you’ll solve it and maximize that product. A note her

What a contrast with Albert A. Michelson, speaking in 1894: > most of the grand underlying principles have been firmly established and that further advances are to be sought chiefly in the rigorous application of these principles to all

One of the issues is that humans don't reason what the current situation is prior to emotional response and action. Rather their emotions about the situation are inputs into the reasoning process. e.g. The fear elicited upon perceivi

If you look at the historical record you'll find that most geniuses were awkward and eccentric people. They didn't send Christmas cards; they mostly just wanted to be left alone to do their unique, self-chosen work. The 'feat

Yes but of course the majority of smart people aren't creative geniuses. Their motivations are different. They apply their smarts to fitting in better, exploiting the social and work environment, etc. I don't think a genius need n

I'm not arguing from the meaning of the word. People with different opinions have a hard time getting along. (Which is why I'm being downvoted by people who advocate for niceness!) People in general are scared of being singled out

It isn't nice, I know, but it comes down to: agreeable people tend to agree with other people. So they can't make significant original contributions.

When it comes to geniuses, the inability to hold down a job, eccentricity of style, rudeness, etc, are features , not bugs. The potential benefit to society far outweighs the very real inconvenience they cause to the people around them. So

I broadly agree with Ridley, Pinker, et al, that material conditions, education, crime reduction, and various other aspects of life have been improving lately. I would also agree that economic growth and energy usage aren't inherently

Yes, there's no guarantee of finding a destination. That's one form of idiocy. Another, from today's point of view, is killing all the inhabitants (if any) upon arrival.

The problem is that critical thinking is essentially a negative activity. It's a means of defending oneself against potentially harmful ideas or ideas that one simply doesn't like. It's also rather abstract. One can't le
