Are you sure we're reaching that point? The market has certainly cooled but tech jobs are still available. I do think that many new grads will have to adjust their expectations from high 6 figure jobs in FAANGs to normal-but-still-fine

That's not why. E3 lost out to the big game publishers doing their own events. And so it lacked purpose. I also don't think it adjusted well to COVID. The Game Awards has a similar but different format with a clearer purpose. And

I would feel very confident saying that the percentage of gamers is higher among tech people than people in general. It's easy to point to pretty direct relationships with tech and gaming - and with overlapping cultures.

Lots of teams/groups have open video conferencing rooms where people can just hang out without any specific purpose - while doing other work. It works to some extent.
