This talk was worth watching (any Karpathy or Carmack talk is imo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6bOwQdCJrc Specifically this is the relevant part: https://youtu.be/g6bOwQdCJrc?t=1370 They removed radar

The Tesla's do have more than two cameras despite us having only two eyes. I don't think that analogy totally holds. It's more that because roads (and road signs) are designed for human vision and human drivers in order to ha

I think Tesla does use Lidar in training for what it's worth (at least I recall someone telling me this - I think it was a friend that worked there but not 100% sure I'm remembering correctly). It's possible the lidar approac

Yeah, adding sensors can sometimes make things worse.

The argument was more that to do it generally you need vision to work, lidar will always be a narrow solution and redundant when you have vision. It might end up that solving the narrow city problem with high res maps is valuable enough to

Cruise’s “entire city” coverage is currently only for employees. The beta coverage is sunset to pacific heights and only 10pm to 530am - making it effectively useless.

Yeah the Tesla screen is excellent. The issue isn't so much with touch screens, it's every other car company being atrocious at software and software design.

You can put the wipers icon at the bottom bar now, that makes it much better.

In Permutation City there was a legally required “opt-out” for digital minds. Disabling that was one of the early things the protagonist does to allow his experiment to continue.

Yeah, partly why I think you need something like Urbit’s ID system to counter spam. Though I’m biased and just generally like the urbit approach more.

Yeah, there’s a market. The units would likely be nicer than the old houses people currently rent there for a lot money. Increased supply may make them cheaper too. Sunset is pretty nice, especially now that most work remote and the downtow

I've had mine (Model 3) for about 5 years now, so far they updated the hardware for free and it's gotten way better software for free over the air. It's a much better car now then when I bought it (so at least so far, the opp

If you’re going to have to deal with it might as well get a tesla which is at least all in on the electronics and the company understands software. The dealership model has really been awful for legacy manufacturers.

I’d expect this kind of control to create resentment and poorly equip the kids to deal with the nuances/risks of access. Probably depends on the kid, but I would have hated it and it would have likely made me not want to engage at all.

I liked this urbit related blog post that starts with the 'big ball of mud' and thinks about how to avoid this if you were to boil the ocean and redesign everything: https://moronlab.blogspot.com/2010/01/

Airbnb made me realize I really love hotels. I think airbnbs win in two main cases, group trips and when the option would be a crappy hotel vs. a nice Airbnb. Otherwise I’ll take a nice hotel every time.

It’s a terrible model, directly rewards click bait and attention grabbing crap vs. selectively paying for good stuff. Substack is much better and the quality available there reflects it.

When you look through your eye glasses are you seeing a simulacrum of the real world? If it’s the same, but you can do hand gestures to interact with UI that appears and disappears does that change things? Maybe you think so given your exam

Not only that - the UX does too. Instead of looking hunched over at little glass displays you're looking at the world and interacting with it more directly.
