Seems like that really depends more on calling conventions than an ABI overall?

The MegatronLM example is a weird one. Neural network language models are replacing n-gram language models that grow to several terabytes for SotA results; 8 billion parameters is tiny by comparison.

In principle yeah Win32 ABI is still supported. In practice that has become untenable, so for old enough software they just run it in a Windows XP virtual machine instead.

Constantly? The Mac 32-bit x86 ABI was supported for 14 years. 32-bit iOS lasted 9 years. Those are the only two ABI switches this decade. And how does "forced" updates negate the size-of-code on disk/memory issue?

What exactly would a third party developer do with good documentation for the Swift ABI? The only practical application I can think of would be implementing some kind of Swift FFI, which has a realistic target market of fewer than 10 develo

I could have guessed it was UnitedHealthcare before I clicked the link. Maybe instead of buying apartments they could spend a little money on their billing system, which has literally fucked up every single medical expense I've ever ha

FWIW Line 9 construction was started in 2009 and is currently expected to finish in 2023. Most of it is open already though. It's a very cool construction technique but it's not fast.

I agree that the industry would be healthier if companies tried to become viable/profitable earlier. I think in particular many took the wrong lesson from Amazon's ability to grow without making money for ~20 years.

There are legitimate reasons to report non-GAAP numbers next to the required GAAP numbers. When it was required to recognize revenue phone sales over 2 years, Apple included non-GAAP numbers to give investors a better sense of how sales wer

You could require a signal from >1 microphone, but then that would make the system less reliable if any of the mics were occluded. And this would be to prevent an attack which is kind of ridiculous in the first place.

This is a fundamentally "what-if" scenario so it's not going to be perfect math, but we can look for hints. To go from non-GAAP to GAAP, you can add the adjustments up. The biggest non-GAAP adjustment (around 2/3rds of t
