The big problem with malloc/new/free/delete is that the interface is way too flexible. Allowing objects to be allocated one thread and freed on another fundamentally requires a bunch of complicated bookkeeping. Particularly i

I appreciate that in general but not here. What does reinterpret_cast<intptr_t>(p) tell a reader that (intptr_t)p doesn't?

I guess I had the benefit of some years of learning to smell for C aliasing violations, but even if I hadn't, static_cast would have been a dreadful way to learn. If static_cast were purely to detect pointer aliasing violations, it may

But it's a completely worthless compiler error. The fix is always to replace static_cast with reinterpret_cast. In 15 years of C++ I can't think of a single time that this error has actually caught a legitimate mistake.

Their hearts were never really in XScale. Intel only ended up having that group due to a bizarre legal settlement with DEC, and pawned it off to Marvell in some misguided attempt at corporate streamlining.

No it's even weirder; the gap implies that there are 50-60 fewer non-COVID deaths in Sweden than there would be otherwise since the pandemic began.

I love the idea but damn that's arguably worse port selection than a Raspberry Pi 4 for like 100x the price, size, and power consumption. It seems like what people really want is a many-core ARM SoC in a laptop. Turn most of the cores

A 30% speedup is nothing to sneeze at, but it's not putting Rust within spitting distance of Go or C for similar amounts of code.

This is cool, and I'm glad to see that A/B testing confirms that TLS 1.3 is actually faster at startup in the real world. That said, I find most annoying Netflix perf problems are in the middle of a stream, not the start. I wonder

Novel compiler backends are a super cool idea, but I don't think it's going to help Rust compile speeds as much as this posts suggests. The complexity of Rust's type system puts a pretty high lower bound on compile times beca

One issue is that you need a source of water. Another is that electrolysis is only around 70% efficient, whereas (say) lithium ion battery charging is more like 95% efficient.
