OP, you're basically describing a dream scenario I'm sure many of us developers have. I'd be very willing to take a lower salary if it means a 10-minute commute, and having a lot of time for side projects. I took up a job tha

Why not live in the suburbs of bay area (East Bay, for example), and quickly cut 30% of your housing costs? Obviously the commute sucks (I endure it daily), but it makes the numbers work. It boggles my mind that most software workers think

While I agree with the overall point of the author, one thing not pointed out is that she is comparing the greats of the past (or current) to the average person. These people are/were great, not the least because they spent that much t

I think the obvious thing that VSCode could've done to avoid this disaster was moving files to recycle bin instead of deleting permanently on discard. You or OP might say why would the behavior of a Linux tool like git move to recycle

You already got a lot of replies about your first paragraph here; I wanted to emphasize and second your next paragraph though: things like setting up environments, by far, is what prevents people from getting into coding. It even applies to

His previous blog post actually said that he moved away from the exact $5/mo digital ocean plan you're talking about, to this. I think the author meant to do this less of a "play with fire" way but more of experimenting

There is still a variety of valid use cases and design though, no? Say your site offers English, Chinese, Japanese, and a number of other languages. Your user's HTTP header says they can accept Japanese. So you default to Japanese. The
