I might. I've never been happy with the 'desktop' linux distros. Not the look/feel/functionality, just install/setup issues and the distro version upgrade hassle. I use arch linux for my dev work, but it seems

I've been using mostly windows (7) for the past years, with a sprinkle of linux VMs for running databases and such. Now, when upgrading, I think I'll buy a mac. I can't be bothered to deal with this crap any more. But on the

Don't think your conclusion holds - and that's actually something the author brings up. It might be quicker in time (not in the amount of instructions executed) to calculate something multiple times, or to do a more complex calcul

If they don't do the seat reservation behind a POST, or at least blacklist the reservation page in robots.txt, I have no sympathy.

That notice is typically in the footer, and a screen reader will reach the nav-bar before mentioning the TOS notice. Even for sighted people, the notice is often easy to miss - and this is by design.

Good! Now, the button should be a slightly different shade if the user is logged in. And it should be blue if the user is an administrator. And the customer requested that it shouldn't show up at all if the user lacks the 'foo

.NET builtin trim lets you specify which 'char' values to trim [1]. .NET is notoriously tied to UTF-16 (a char is 16 bit), and you have to handle surrogate pairs very carefully, but I can't really imagine that being any bette

Good point. The Cloudflare capthchas I've seen seemed to use Javascript, but maybe it's just incredibly good CSS. Interestingly, while a javascript calculation might leak more information to CloudFlare (since they might collect ot

I wonder why these anti-abuse systems don't use proof-of-work. Instead of a captcha, let the browser chug for 5 seconds, and then POST the solution in order to gain a temporary access cookie. Sure, this could be attacked - but not at s

The SML standard defines a WideChar and WideString, that are compatible with the String type. A SML implementation could just say 'WideChar' = UTF-32 and WideString is unicode, and all source files are utf-8. I think that would be

I really like SML, but still havn't seen a good unicode solution here - which lets me use unicode in string constants in code, as well as convert data between encodings at run time. That's what's missing for me. So for now, F

For this particular example, wouldn't this be best solved with a separate runlevel for "reboot into UEFI"? Stop all daemons, remount all normal filesystems read-only, remount UEFI RW, write variable and reboot.
