Imagine how much simpler every single query becomes, when you don't have to do complex access checking as part of the criteria. You can just write a normal select/join! The database handles access checking for you. Suddently, it&#

Off the top of my head: - CTE's - Arrays/JSON type - partial indexes - transactional DDL - NOTIFY - Materialized views - Schemas - PostGIS - Row level security (which is new in PG)

The actual reason you really need a proper PID 1 is not explained in this post, but a couple of clicks away at [0]: >[...] the init process must also wait for child processes to terminate, >before terminating itself. >If t

Well, they sort of showed early on that the prosecutions theory was wrong. But that doesn't mean he wasn't guilty. And when presenting his story, they spent considerably time debating wether it was true or not. It seemed pretty ba

A beautiful site devoid of any technical or pricing details, and the 'contact us' button doesn't even work.

Now, imagine if they would say something (anything!) about pricing without forcing me to make an account.

Worth having a look at https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/easyprivacy.txt There are some possibly problematic blocks with the words 'analytics', 'log', 'event' that might be used in a l

BrowserId didn't tie your identity to your browser. It tied your identity to your email address, and made it possible to have several identities to choose from. The selling point was the browser integration. This would be especially aw

I've not actually used arrays in relational databases, but often wished I had them when doing grouping and aggregates. It would often be nice to do the aggregate on the server side, but also return all the IDs in each group in a clean

I do this manually (in FF) with one window per project, and N tabs per window. Works well enough even without extensions.

I think LINQ got this very nearly right. You can write this LINQ-style from child in node where child != null select process(child) or with extension methods node.Where(c => c != null).Select(process)

Well, the decryption code is open source. And they have the ciphertext. So what does a timing attack give the attacker? If keeppass removes the possible timing attack, the attacker could just add it back in and use their own client, if they

I must admit, I can't immediately see the problem with leaking timing data. The client (that decrypts the password database) runs on your local computer, and typically places clear-text-passwords into the clipboard during normal use. S

Because, when the time comes to actually pass/reject the final agreement, the choice is binary. And a _lot_ of work has been put in from all sides, under the assumption that the tradeoffs they make will be accepted.

A good ajax library that's well integrated with a good promise library, that's completely cross-browser, back to IE7.

The Ajax section is just not good enough. The main reason I still use jQuery is that they unify their promise type with their ajax. It's easy to create code that works with any promise, ajax or otherwise.

By 'selling your data', I mean using your data to target ads. Not actually selling it, but profiting from having it. So I could probably have phrased that better.

It seems they're planning on selling your data, and locking you in to their other services. I recently tried out the Win10 tech preview. It's very very hard to disable internet searching whenever you try and find a file, and it&#x
