I appreciate the strange terms being brought to my attention. I don't have time to worry about a company morally and subjectively policing the product I bought from them. The TOS is not a place to be clever and funny and this informati

I have a NAS in my house and I still put a ton of important files on Dropbox. Before I had Dropbox I would suffer from pretty significant anxiety every time I went on a trip. What if someone breaks into my house? What if there's a fire

I know that they plan to add dynamically loaded module support in a future release. As long as they don't plan to keep that feature as an Nginx Plus feature then I don't see much to be concerned about. As it stands right now, a lo

About a year ago I was at a dinner party with some friends that live in Oakland, off Lake Merritt. They were all recalling stories about times when they'd been mugged like it was normal! Another friend of mine tells me about shootings

When I first started programming I used to quote this post. A bit later on I realized I was making excuses for my Not Invented Here Syndrome. Now I favor getting things done, though my NIH Syndrome still peaks out every now and then.

After working in a few pretty large environments I have some pretty strong opinions about hostnames. I've seen everything from cute theme based names to function/role based names to meaningless uuid based names. Usually you see th

This has prevented me from using the official Jira python module. I literally just launched something hacky using urllib2 yesterday because of this... :(

I find it better that they stay out of the stdlib. Having to upgrade all of python just to get a new feature like CONNECT support would be unfortunate.

This is driving me crazy. Every single link/search result on the internet redirects you. It's not even a 301/302. It's a slow meta-refresh. Just long enough to tease you.

They should flag cnet/Download.com next. I downloaded something recently that was, unfortunately, only available from their site. They now wrap downloads in their own executable that presents something that looks like a TOS but it's to inst

I've edited my post to more clearly reflect my opinion on the matter. I agree that people have the rights to disagree with and attempt to change laws. Though I haven't seen any arguments that are more than people feeling entitled to things.

Is it not possible that the shoplifter raves about the book to all their friends and they go buy copies from the store thus ending up ahead? That's the same reasoning I've seen FOR piracy of digital content. I know it's not a good analogy,

I can't say whether pirating media will lose or gain money for the studios/producers/etc. but I know one thing for sure. You are not entitled to that media and if you don't like the methods in which these studios provide it then your only l
