I think they are creating a new market. People now use Uber in situations in which they never would have thought to take a cab. That is not to say this valuation makes sense

part of that could be risk aversion but a lot of it is just the fact that screenwriting is a skill. Everyone wants to be a screenwriter so we are used to (believe it or not) only seeing the top tiniest fraction of a percent of material ever

Hurting peoples feelings does not improve their health. My guess is (I don't know you) looking down on fat people is one of the mechanisms by which you make yourself feel worthy. You are not doing it from their benefit. Believe me, it

I've been really fat most of my life, currently doing pretty well. When you have this problem most people, if they ever lose weight, experience a cycle- lose a lot of weight followed by cockiness/judginess (maybe, I never got that

A subpoena doesn't require evidence of misconduct. As I understand it congress asked one of their agencies to provide information and they refused. I think subpoena is the legal way of saying, your refusal is invalid. Give us the infor

years ago I was working on a pitch for a startup based on tech I had developed. My adviser, a successful serial entrepreneur told me not to call the tech "revolutionary" (or something like that) because potential investors hear it

For some people, altering what other people do by acting super offended is the only power they will ever experience. The text of the offense is not important and does not have to make any sense to you.

I don't think early investors dubbed themselves "Angels". If I recall correctly it came from the term used for similar people who used to finance Broadway shows. I like to think some ingenue in the 1920s called some rich guy

I guess. There are risks to telling a kid anything. I was fat, un-athletic and shy. I'm kind of glad I had one thing to cling to.

Including XML and RDF doesn't bother me. A lot of people greatly prefer JSON over XML. I don't get exorcised either way. The final two look like problems. I would guess the penultimate one is because most medical systems ignore ti

I know it isn't wise to ask about downvotes but why would people downvote me for stating what I experienced when it is relevant to the discussion? Can people not tolerate anything which deviates from the narratives in their heads?

Better search is definitely needed and seems like something the EPICs and Cerners of the world could easily do if they just assigned a couple smart people and left them alone. Instead they'll probably form vast teams of search stakehol

Saying these companies could just open their APIs is probably wrong. None of the legacy EMRs has a good underlying data model and what they have tends to be customized per site. There might be some minor functionality you could get to work

I'm not a Ruby programmer so maybe this is wrong for some reason. I leave it in place. With intelliJ you can collapse comment blocks so if you have a bad reaction to "messy" code you don;t have to look at it. Leave the corpse

We're getting there. We still have huge problems on the data input side. Standards like fhir might be okay (though limited). Problem is most of the data we would love to analyze is never input as discrete data in the first place. We ar
