Independence means something else. It means not beholden to certain interests. Simply being in the pocket of the other party (opposition) does not make them independent. (Disclaimer: I don't know if this is the case, simply commenting

Your advice only works if one speaks fluent Spanish and is well versed in and comfortable with the way societies work in Latin America. For anyone else it is a recipe for disaster (as in being taken advantage of many times over)

The Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund (Settlement fund) has a variable rate but produced 1.1% in the last year and 4% since inception. In addition when you park your money there you can easily invest it at any time. In general going straig

Ok I'll bite. How much do you think would entice someone to be a cashier and work 8 hours a day when someone on unemployment in the current system gets say $3600/month. Imagine a poorer state where you can easily make do with $3.

I will keep this short but I think paying predermined sums like the $600 is a terrible idea. the number of people for whom this is exactly the right amount is tiny, all it generates massive imbalances between those for whom this is too much

think about what you are saying artificially raising salaries in an imploding economy with high unemployment is beneficial uh, no, it is a recipe for economic disaster.

if everyone's salary is raised by $600 what do you think happens? I'll tell you, $600 is the new zero that gets you nothing.

consider what you are saying, that the economic policy for raising salaries is to introduce an artificially highly set unemployment benefit

I don't see how having only 50% make more is any less ludicrous. Should anyone ever make more money while unemployed than when employed? Won't that completely alter the valuation of work and with that the proper functioning of the

Exactly this. Apple has all the reasons to entice the customer into buying the product and encouraging them to do so by offering a full refund, and they take none of the risks because the make the same money either way. I am surprised of ho

Reading the thread here is an interesting datapoint: https://twitter.com/twolivesleft/status/1288491970248077314 - Since 2011 Codea has had 1,768 refunds - Estimate it cost us ~$8,000 USD to pay Apple’s 30% - A si

How do you know that? The interface and what you can do/demonstrate in the store is severely limited.

That is not the right reason to refund. Price should have nothing to do with marginal costs. it has to do with who is being made to carry the cost, and the griefing that can occur that way. Not worth the trouble IMHO.

Perhaps the refund is caused by the store itself? Is it inconceivable that the distribution, visibility and framework caused the customer to misjudge the product?

Where this analogy fails is that shipping is not a fixed percent of a product cost. And the cost of refund is the same to Apple for a product that cost $1 just as it is for products that cost $100.
