Exactly! And you don't even have to bother making something - there's already a couple Basic interpreters... and Scheme... and Lua.

Not really. Diaspora already had most of its design in place, including the drag-and-drop 'Circles' feature (called Aspects in Diaspora), before Google+ was even announced.

I'm not your parent poster but I personally dislike that you have to instantiate a separated Response object, and that you have to fetch a stream, even for tiny responses. In those Python/Ruby frameworks it's just one line. I always end up

Oh, agreed. And the newer ultrabooks make the portability vs usability tradeoff much much smaller. And maybe open/closed OSs will eventually converge. Look at Lion and Windows 8... I just hope they remain open!!!

Well, I believe it would work seamlessly if it's just a code-translator like coffescript.

I think it might be elegant in small doses - just look at C#'s LINQ. Also, it's a nice strategy to lure newbies away from string concatenation and give security for free...

It would be really cool. In fact, I was thinking about that right now. Just convert and bingo, instantly deployable on 100% of php hosts. For local development, a script with --watch a la sass, or maybe a single index.php for converting thi

"Then I think we're a long way from seeing this era" Agreed, but we're just starting, maybe in a few years, who knows... IMO, the term post-PC is a nice way to differentiate Android/iOS/WebOS/etc tablets from previous generation tablets tha

That's what I thought. Also, memory chips, LCD display and power controllers, Thunderbolt... those can make a lot of difference in an Apple product.

Well, I never really used the iPad as a consumption device. Of course I loaded it with movies, e-books and pdf papers, but it gets old fast. I still buy 4 books a month and watch Netflix on the living room exclusively... =\ However it insta

IMO, another nice side-effect of having library code in C is portability and easy code reuse, since lots of scripting languages can interface with it.

Diaspora was/is a hint of the future for distributed social networks, but too bad it was/is a bit poorly executed. To be honest, I had hopes that Google+ would be part of an open platform with federation, considering Google Talk already use

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but nobody really _learns_ good practices just by having somebody tell them. They might _use_ them, but _learning_ requires something more. It is important for programmers to think by themselves! G
