Note, you say "leadership of western corporations", but in the case of high speed rail, Japanese companies are involved too, and have fallen to the scam just as well.

"just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu". Well, it's now orders of magnitude bigger than gnu, definitely not a hobby for neither Linus nor plenty of other people, and we're still waiting for the Hurd.

FWIW, I've had the flu (confirmed with nasal swab). I was bound to bed for 2-3 days, with fever spikes above 41°C but it didn't take several weeks to recover. Barely a few days.

Almost not joking: I wonder if it wouldn't be better if Blender grew image editing features. After all, it now has video editing features, and I hear they're decent.

Pretty ironic, considering GTK was originally created for GIMP (that's even what the G stood for back then: the GIMP ToolKit).

See LGPL v2.1 section 7. It's annoying to comply with. Section 6 too. 7a was clearly designed for proprietary software. It would be a problem with the GPL too if section 3 wasn't there. LGPL v3 didn't make things better.

I hate Columbo because in the Double Exposure episode they explain the cue marks that appeared during movies to indicate to the projectionist they need to switch reels, and after that I couldn't not notice those cue marks (Fight Club d

Don't forget the LGPL, which, in its attempt to allow proprietary software to use LGPLed code with conditions, makes it painful to use LGPLed code in free software licensed under anything other than the GPL.

Except there are actually no color difference in Shogi. Which player a piece belongs to is indicated by its direction (at least that's my layman understanding). I have no clue why English goes with Black and White.

In Shogi aka "Japanese chess", while for some reason in English, the players are Black and White, in Japanese, they are 先手 (sente, literally first hand/before hand) and 後手 (gote, literally second hand/after hand). Black

There is a sort of bit-endianity when you look at hex dumps of data, where you'd see something like "34 12" that represents the 16-bit value 0x1234 if the data was little endian.

The LGPL does impose restrictions that can make things inconvenient. Even for (or, dare I say, especially for) free software under other licenses.
