Maybe, but a lot of companies, even in YC, focus on a lot of things that are not related to revenue (unpaid user growth etc).

Wow, I was under the impression that the Flint situation was primarily driven by bad policy put in place by people who didn't really know what they were doing, but it seems like there was a lot more nefarious action than that.

My friends, we are finally hitting the new economy where even startup are being asked to make money---maybe not to the point of profitability, but even a little revenue can make a big difference in a lean organization.

I really like this idea. We groom our Kanban board, which creates a similar effect, but not so explicitly. In your case or ours, one of the nice things about stepping back is reprioritization, which happens nicely in Scrum but not so much i

I love this. We briefly flirted with scrum but now just have a much more Kanban-like system now, too. The only issue I foresee long term is that the sprint mentality of Scrum might recharge people and get them to, well, sprint, at product g

One cool part about this is that once they prove that current engine designs can be replicated using additive manufacturing, then totally new engine designs, different from anything possible with traditional manufacturing techniques, can be

Rule of thumb from someone who has been through it (not me): Employees 1-20: "never have to work again money" 20-200 (or so): "buy some nice stuff, live a great life, still have to work" >200: nice payday, buy a house

Number 1 rule of working at a startup: really trust the founders and everyone you work with. Look out for yourself, but at the end of the day, if you are working with someone scummy, they can change the rules at basically any time. So work

Here they are talking about surface quenching, where the amorphous carbon thin film is heated then rapidly cooled on the surface. Instead of forming smaller precipitates, like in an alloy, it just forms very small crystals that happen to be

The carbon is amorphous before it is heated, then it forms various crystalline structures it appears (you can see that in the Raman, EELS, and other measurements, though the quick way to identify that is all the discussion of various crysta

Set a performance goal. Don't focus on weight loss, focus on finishing a half marathon, swimming a mile, or something else you might like to do. Then set up a training plan 3-5 days a week and keep a calendar where you get to cross off

You are indeed correct. This article uses quartz and quartz glass interchangeably, so I assumed the author was making the sapphire/"sapphire glass" error (because sapphire is never a glass) but upon checking out the original

Quartz is not glass. Quartz is a crystal.

Alumina is Al2O3 generally, and usually it is polycrystalline. Sapphire is specifically Al2O3 in a certain (very hard) crystal structure.

Hard work is important, but the implication here that pure meritocracy created highly homogenous companies is asinine. I am one of the privileged few that gets to live in this magical place, be told great all of us are, and how we worked ha
