By the same logic why wouldn't you use all the extra cash you have to buy bitcoins? If you frame it that way then the answer is obvious, there is no guarantee the value will continue to rise so you will use it to purchase when you thi

If you've dealt with any of the bitcoin exchanges you'd realize Coinbase is the most reputable and trustworthy. It's either deal with them, trust Magic the Gathering Online Xchange or the Russian mobsters over at btc-e.com.

An even smarter criminal would have "mined" the Ripple give away using EC2, there are still people paying for those instances as we speak so surely they would be more profitable than litecoin mining (assuming you sell them right a

Makes you wonder why the criminal didn't launch g2.2xlarge instances which would get 185 kH/s per instance. In fact for awhile there litecoin mining was profitable at spot prices. http://www.completefusion.com/pro

One cc2.8xlarge instance will give you 85 kH/s so 20 instances would give 1700 kH/s which only nets about $18 at current market prices / difficulty. So over 2 days he would have made off with a whopping $36.

Yep, that's the only way to do it with zero risk. But since btcchina.com is consistently higher than the other top exchanges you'll eventually have to move CNY out of there and bitcoin in. Moving bitcoin there is trivial (which

From an Amazon review: You can return it to Amazon or Call Sony @ 1(800)345-7669 to schedule a replacement. Mine is broken like everyone elses. If your console light turns white (and doesn't get stuck at pulsating blue), it could be th

There appears to be multiple issues going on that are probably all being filed under the console being bricked. HDMI seems to be causing problems where the console won't show a picture but everything internally is still working. Ther

The point in the article was that if you sent the coins to an address that never spent any coins (like the reference client does where it will always create a new "change" address for left over coins from a transaction) then the

That sounds pretty useful, something I would love to see open sourced as I've thought about making a distributed LevelDB based DB as well. Any word on how it handles the distribution? Are we talking a quorum based system like Cassandr

From what I can tell it's not just legacy systems that are the problem. I just tried the system for the first time today and there are multiple form issues (errors like "Error: id" with no further explanation) and broken lin

There are only 3600 BTC per day being generated. They can't just generate a few million bitcoins. At best they could do a 51% attack and double spend bitcoin, which would cause problems but it's been done in other digital curren

Bitcoin does have the ability to store this kind of information in the actual blockchain, but blockchain.info decided it was not worth the bloat. http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/7864/is-a-public-...

Ah, good to know that functionality was added. I haven't used Cassandra since the 0.6.x days so my knowledge of what's possible there is rusty.

It wasn't really mentioned in the article but if you do both {X1,Y1} and {X2,Y2} as full row updates then no you can't end up with a mixed row. http://www.datastax.com/dev/blog/row-level-isolation

It's worth noting that HBase has the same method of using LWW on column level updates. While this usually is what you want and like Cassandra it gives you the ability to do fast blind writes there are sometimes that you need to make s

The company I work for had a similar experience with Cassandra. We were running it back in the 0.6 days. Once any of our nodes got around 500GB on them the performance would tank. It seems that they later fixed the performance in 1.2 ( ht
