I like there's a trend of this flag being raised from more and more places; but I wonder if there's also a solution somewhere in sight or what form that would take; more regulation after assholes reach monopoly status, sure... but

If Apple hadn't stopped investing (for real) in Safari 10 years ago, maybe people would choose it based on the merits. It would be stupid to keep "protecting" Safari when it's clear to anyone the reason why so many web f

That's so ironically sad coming from Jobs seeing where Apple got now (partly due to the direction he set).

This is cool, but how will they enforce it against someone like Apple? If I buy my next iPhone in Oregon, I'll have the right to repair it / buy non-VIN-locked parts?

The standards Apple set are for others, not for itself; Apple is all too happy to extract as much data as possible from its customers to build its own ad empire while limiting others'. I'd prefer a level playing field where I can

Mikhail reported to Rajesh Jha and I guess now he'll report to Mustafa. Mikhail's official title is CEO of Advertising and the entire Windows Engineering org reports to him. I just asked some MS friends who confirmed.

Interesting, Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Advertising, where Windows is reporting these days is also moving under the new org. I wonder what Microsoft's plans are for Windows now that the whole thing reports to Copilot and Ads.

There are millions of pieces of software in C or C++ with more than a couple thousand commits, whereas with rust there are maybe a handful (the rust compiler itself, Servo, Deno, and... ?), and I bet they all had to fix memory safety bugs (

No, I mean humans in general, not software developers. Seriously, show a non-developer a printout of some average modern C++ code and some average rust code and see which one they think is easier to read and more visually pleasing.

I didn't say people are too stupid. On the contrary, we onboard fresh grads onto our large C++ code base every once in a while and they all seem to grasp the concepts just fine. I'm wondering if most folks throwing shade at C++ ha

Epic isn't Apple's customer. Apple is just the local (techno)feudal lord / rentier wanting to tax all merchants trying to sell goods to Apple's serfs.
