Median salary for a software engineer according to BLS is over that - around $133k.

We would have to look at that by industry. For example, if median developer pay is $130k, then both of your numbers are below that and would bring the median down. $118k for highly skilled workers (purpose of H1B) seems low to me. Additiona

The numbers say otherwise. The US is outsourcing about 300k jobs annually, with about 75% of those being tech. The trend has generally increased over the past decade.

If your finite time at work is filled with business work, then there is no time left to do the open-source work. Seems true to me from an IC and delivery perspective. Company staffing and resource allocation could create the time to do it,

I think that was a pretty small trend. The trend I'm hearing today is 300k jobs are being offshore annually and that around 75% of those are in the tech sector. Assuming a company could only hire half as many people here due to peice d

I remember joining my company right out of college. In the interview we started talking about open source since I had some open source Android apps. I asked if the company contributed back to the projects it used. The answer was no, but tha

"I think the high cost of full time hires for entry level software jobs (total comp + onboarding + mentoring) vs investing in AI and seeing if that gap can be filled" I think it's more to do with the outsourcing. Software is

"Or are companies doing this on the expectation that AI is advanced enough to pick up the slack?" I think it's the expectation. We have some publicized examples of needing to hire people back. My company isn't laying off

Ah, looks like I might have read the paper wrong. It's theorized that some HPV strains could also be carried by non-human primates.

It looks like your sibling post has a link from WHO showing screening will be a continued effort.

I've heard of it being administered post exposure as a way to help the body fight the existing infection. Seemed a little odd when I first heard it as HPV should clear on it's own.

Unlike the measles, HPV is not a good eradication candidate due to the existence of non-human reservoirs.

We have both asked for examples of how countries guarantee safe delivery without any chemical treatment (chlorine, ozone, etc). You have provided nothing.

The ozone has similar concerns as the chlorine with the formation of potentially hazardous by products. Carbon plus UV is probably sufficient as long as you can guarantee the pipes are fine through the whole distribution system. We will see

Replacing the pipes can take years. There needs to be some sort of good medium-term solution. I think it's reasonably feasible to use bottles as a very short term solution while implementing the RO systems for a medium-term solution. I

Hence the part about programs to help facilitate it. I'd rather see RO systems being handed out in Flint, MI vs cases of bottled water for months.

I generally agree, but they're focused mostly on 65+ age group. That would make more sense around 45-55 if people are having kids in their 30s.

Because you may have 2 different parents to care for instead of just 1. In general, this could also mean longer caregiving periods based on the ages of the divorce vs typical lifespan.

Keep in mind, these restrictions have nothing to do with the environmental pollution but only the water treatment. So those veggies would still be contaminated with or without the regulation. If we moved to a paradigm of point of use purifi

Reducing pollution in the environment is good, but this discussion is about water quality mandates for drinking water. These are more at the water treatment facility level whereas reducing the environmental levels would happen upstream of t

The reason we can afford it is due to our GDP. We aren't that far ahead of other developed countries when you look at it as a percentage of GDP. The real issue is our debt, for which the interest payments are almost as much as our defe

At this point we should just create programs to promote RO filtration at home. If it's not lead then it's PFAS or some other thing. Then we have the issues with the chlorine and chloramine byproducts inhernet even in properly trea
