Likely means the app doesn't work because Telegram is being blocked at the network level. Similar to how many telcos offer "free" Whatsapp on their plans, they can filter the traffic.

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it". This quote summarizes much of the discourse in HN and the tech industry at large. As you point out, it is in fact a fals

I find it curious that your reaction to this is to reduce OP's point to the "capitalism is bad" trope when it is in fact more nuanced than that. His point isn't anti-capitalist per se - it critiques the traits of the dom

Right, point being that using terminals in Windows is not necessarily subpar to iTerm2 on macOS.

Having used iTerm2 and macOS for a long time, Alacritty in Windows with WSL2 and a Linux distro is a much better experience.

I've been following this newsletter since Matthias launched it - I recommend going through the archive [0] if you're into personal websites and the "IndieWeb". On a similar vein, I also recommend Manuel Moreale's ne

`app.listen` uses the same signature as Node's `server.listen`. You can specify the `host` [0] or else it defaults to `0.0.0.0`. This means that when you run this service, it will be accessible to anyone that can reach the server. Typi

I'm also eyeing wails for a couple of personal desktop apps that I want to build soon. I built toy app first towards the end of last year to try it out and I was impressed. It felt like a nice middle ground between Electron and Tauri f

For anyone interested in fermenting foods themselves, look into Sandor Katz. I found one of his books [0] more accessible or beginner friendly than the Noma book. [0]: https://search.worldcat.org/title/1108679733

Sorry but isn't this disingenuous? Reading a summary of the book in Wikipedia/Blinkist/ChatGPT is definitely not the same as the reading book. Sure, you may grasp at the central idea or argument superficially, but to understa

What I'm saying is that security is about layers. I agree with you, a VPN and HTTP auth is not apples to apples where one is better than the other.

I prefer to run the webserver using systemd on the host so publishing the container port to 127.0.0.1 is enough for me.

Yes, though I'd say _and_ not _or_. Just because you're using a VPN it doesn't mean you should drop all forms of authentication.

Docker is great but it is easy to shoot yourself on the foot if you use it conveniently but don't actually understand it. A common mistake is to publish the Docker ports unknowingly to all interfaces (e.g `5432:5432`), which makes your

Not the parent but I can suggest what has worked for me. Talking to a therapist can be helpful in getting to the root of it. Meditation also helps, but it may be a longer road. In other words, whatever helps you live a more examined life. R

Thinking out loud here, but if this is public-facing you can put together a static archive using something like ArchiveBox/SingleFile and have the monitoring server serve the files and update the DNS entry when it detects downtime past
