The game has been up for a while, this just takes into hyper-drive. But don't forget, you _can_ opt out of this corporate and consumerist side of the internet. It's over when you're convinced that you cannot do so. For me per

NextDNS also has a free plan, albeit you'll hit the limit quickly. I don't expect everyone to pay for a service like this, but I think that paying for a service like this is reasonable if you can afford it. There's always a m

I've had this happen to me with iOS and VPNs in general. NextDNS, Wireguard, and most notoriously, Tailscale.

Agreed. At the end of the day there is no one tool that will fend off all of it. However, NextDNS/Pihole + uBlock Origin gets you most of the way there. uBlock Origin is particularly helpful for blocking first-party ads.

You can use nextdns [0] pretty much to the same effect of a pihole, yet you can get up and running in minutes. You can then configure wherever you please: your browser, your laptop, your phone, or even your router. [0]: https://n

I've had good luck using Tesseract [0] for scanned PDFs. If you're not CLI-inclined, there are several GUIs for it available [1]. I have had good luck downloading scanned PDFs from archive.org and running them through Tesseract. D

Mastodon doesn't need to "make" it or "happen". Mastodon is not out there trying to become _the thing_. It works exactly as expected for a segment of people. It may not be your cup of tea and that's fine! Good

The whole point of Mastodon/Fediverse is that mastodon.social is not your sole option. Unlike other platforms, you have a choice. You're in control of who to follow or block, and what to mute. There is no algorithmic timeline that

The assumption you're making here is that the Earth "heals", as if a wound has been inflicted. Likewise, that there is a "normal" level. In other words, that there is a prevailing state to which the system returns t

This is a great resource to get into Ivan Illich. The writing refers a lot to Illich's work, and there are a couple of episodes where it is discussed with people close to Illich. Quite related, I'd say! The name, however, is a pla

I keep stumbling into this misconception of degrowth. Your argument about the Sri Lankan and the Congolese is actually aligned with the degrowth movement. One of their key points is that economies of the global north should consume less so
