   The west, capitalism and meritocracy are not beyond criticism. Those ideals aren’t perfect and fail millions of people. Self critique is important and after all, aren’t they entitled to exercise their fee speech?

    I don’t really understand the handwringing around wokeness. It feels like it’s one step away from McCarthyism. As a Scot, I’d consider the economist to be in the faux respectability area of the British right wing press. Sophisticated lies.
