That's true, but here's a thought: Using engineered wood products potentially allows undesirable or unconventional wood sources to become useful building materials, rather than having to source old growth timber for larger beams&#

Doesnt surprise me, I was in San Diego last week and it was funny seeing all these scooters littered around every street corner. In some instances they clogged up sidewalks. I could see how it might spark the ire of some business owners. Sc

So now what benefits does a subscription offer for a casual developer? If the 3 collaborator limit isn't a problem, is there any reason to keep a subscription?

No, I assumed the rebar is orientated as the 'strong rope'. If the rebar were positioned as you say, they would yield/bend quite easily.

You're right, it was the GE-90 that produced 115k. Rest assured, however, that the quantity of #9 rebars remains unchanged.

I'm a structural engineer, so when I see forces I like to compare them to common forces I design for in buildings. That engine produces 115,000 lb of thrust. If I take typical rebar, fy=60ksi, so I will need about 1.916in2, which is ab

How do you propose municipal planning departments process, audit, and test the thousands of building permit drawings they receive every year? Have a staff of hundreds of engineers of their own? The professional reliance model seems to work

I've ordered a couple of things from AliExpress to Canada, the cheapest shipping options take a long time... I think I waited 2 months for a pack of rare earth magnets once. There are FedEx, etc options available but sometimes they are

I don't know if any parrenting approach can ever make someone like routine housework. Its more about instilling the discipline to do the work in spite of not wanting to, with the reward being a more pleasant household.

Not sure about UK, but where I'm from this type of single family home construction discussed in the article doesn't normally require a structural engineer. In that case, you really are depending on the reputation of the builder.

Theres a whole field of structural reliability, and it's where they come up with load and resistance factors for design equations, and material testing requirements. I believe the targets are such that the probability of collapse of an

Another anecdote - In structural engineering, US units are way easier to work with, and even in Canada, about 90% the buildings I work on use kips, ft, ksi, etc.

Yeah, a lot of the delay is coming from the rezoning and permitting process. There are crazy wait times for large projects because of the large queue of applications, understaffed planning departments, public consultations, and semi-extorti

Fair enough, single family homes are a different story because holding costs are so low, and the owner is usually financing the construction. Larger projects have significant construction mobilization (just the crane is costing hundreds of
