There is a legitimate "existing library of apps / network effects" argument here, as well as an illegitimate "appeal to popularity" one.

One possibility is that while the rich now hold a larger percentage of income, they hold a similar percentage of "income over subsistence level." In real dollars, the subsistence level is much lower now than in 1919. Assuming that subsiste

This thread is a classic example of something that happens over and over. Someone says something is hard to use. 1/3 of the responses agree. 1/3 of the responses disagree, say it's simple. 1/3 of the responses say it's simple, all you have

Sometimes you sign up for something and wonder how you ever lived without it. I'm getting that feeling already, and I haven't even used it yet. I signed up before finishing the article, it's indexing my data now. Assuming it works as advert

The point is that it's disingenuous to say you're only using ~25% of your money to buy the property, when in reality all of your money is at risk, because you're leveraging. If you invest 25% in the stock market, you won't lose more than 2

People discussing this, please dispute the data, offer solutions, talk about root causes, etc. Please don't fall into the trap of calling the data racist.

Part of the problem is that a language like Java: 1. Is verbose by its very nature 2. Has language characteristics that push the developer in the direction of using design patterns at every opportunity. So what might be a 1000 line program

Exactly. Good form on free weights > Using a machine > Bad form on free weights. For me, introducing free weights gradually let me concentrate on the form for each one as I first did it.

Great article, agree with pretty much everything. The one advantage of machines over free weights is that the machine will enforce your form. If you are able to maintain form with free weights, the effort exerted to do so is an added bonus
