This is why the casino people get upset when you roll the dice at a craps table and continually avoid hitting the back wall. The rubber pyramids lining the wall are critical to ensuring they maintain their edge :)

I’m guessing you’re simplifying - but a fixed delay like this is a good way to fool yourself, since a system built that can handle fixed latency can go to pieces in the face of jitter and packet loss.

Seems exactly false. DALL-E 2 seems to end much of the illustrator industry and if the endless array of Twitter posts from early adopters are any indication it works great.

Huh. I came up with this independently a few years ago, and expanded it to argue that this is what is going on at the galactic level - UFOs are such a surveillance system. https://mobile.twitter.com/gfodor/status/1

It seems like every fusion post is bound to have at least one commenter point out that the sun is a working fusion reactor, as if literally anyone in these threads will learn something from this observation.

Crypto crashes every couple years and of course it has grown immensely since the last crash so the scale and scope of these kinds of “analyses” grow with it. I’d imagine in 5 years in the next big crash it will be the top news around the gl

I think Dreams on PS4 kind of answers this question clearly, at least one answer to it. I do think SDFs are a good path for a great potential breakthrough for AI directed 3d modelling tools like DALL-E -- we're pretty close.

There's an incredibly interesting track I've been following trying to find a good latent embedding for AI to generate 3d objects, and SDFs seem like a very good representational format for this. This would, among other things, a

SDFs do not dictate how you approximate the rendering equation beyond the fact that they are a useful way to describe surfaces. (So, for example, they are mismatched with volumetric rendering.) The characteristics you cite are generally sat

A couple of reasons: - SDFs are much more amenable to direct manipulation by humans - SDFs potentially can be decomposed into more human-understandable components - SDFs may provide a better mechanism for constructing a learned latent space
