Other than being a great editor, Vim has great value as a sort of practical joke you can play on people new to the command line. "You can't figure out how to get out of the editor? I'm busy, stop asking me stupid questions. L

Calling it a dark pattern is a bit much. Dark patterns are intentionally misleading. The free account here clearly shows the limits before you sign up.

I think people try to do too much with note apps and then they fail. What people normally try to accomplish with a note app should actually be like 4 - 5 different apps which handle different elements of what you're trying to accomplis

Also, many people like Journals and plain text because these methods don't lend themselves to blaming the tool. They force you to think about the problem rather than the tool. Plain text doesn't fix note-taking any more than it ca

Taking notes is a process. If you're tired of the apps, then you haven't put enough thought into the process. The available apps are fine. Picking a tool to solve a problem is the opposite approach to how you solve the problem. Yo

Doesn't seem like a big deal. In this case I believe "MS support" is just compiling PHP for Windows and making them available at the PHP for Windows site. I'm sure someone will pick this up. Or maybe it ends up being som

It doesn't. Nothing does. Good poker players should have no problem doing all this in their heads. The tooling which does help is hand analysis and replay. I haven't kept up, but there used to be tools while playing online poker w

One of my first pick-ups as an adult in a bookstore was Gödel, Escher, Bach. People thought I was crazy for grabbing it. One of my friends was fascinated by it and I ended up giving it away. Hopefully he did good things with it!

If you only need the features that Notepad provides, then it's an alternative to Roam. That's what these "Roam Research alternative" discussions sound like to me anyways. Foam isn't an alternative to Roam unless you
