How many of the people that think the virus isn’t real are critical thinkers though (meaning Occam’s razor, the scientific method, etc)? It’s not just education per se that we need, but education in critical thinking, and also history.

There is a phrase for it, but it does not match my experience at AWS at all. (Source: been working there for 3.5 years now). Things break, we do COEs and we learn from them. If an issue was caused by operator error, the COE would look at wh

Do you have data or anecdotes that this is a consistent issue across the tech companies you mentioned? As an AWS employee speaking for myself, I find it inconceivable that in our customer obsessed culture we’d lock out accounts without a cl

The common solution to the ‘contribution problem’ inherent in dual licensing is a CLA. That never really appealed to me. It makes it harder to accept occasional contributions, while I also find it somewhat dubious to ask people to transfer

I never followed this but in ca 1995 I built a Linux boot / rescue floppy disk from scratch. The amount of confidence this gave me with Linux was insane, and I benefit from it to this day.

At present math is the only tool that works though. I would even go a bit further and say that math isn’t only a tool but it’s a device that provides a deeper understanding and intuition. A metaphor that jumps to mind is that of woodworking

APIs are Application Programming Interfaces, and they have existed long before the web and web services. The article's use of APIs is correct. A really well known example of an API is the C library.

The article starts with the assumption that the total amount of work in an economy is fixed and that the extra hours we make are make-work. I beg to differ. At least in high tech, we can improve a product or service as many times as we want

(PM-T in the EFS team) This is NFS and locking is fully supported (the blog includes an example). Because EFS implements the NFS 4.0/4.1 protocols, locks are lease-based and there isn't a need to clean them up. In the unlikely eve
