I highly recommend this book. The chapters were "bite sized". Compared with the dinosaur book, it was easier to finish one chapter after I started on it. The chapters on concurrency made me cry with "so this is how XXX works&

This is just wishful thinking in the current situation. Don’t expect Chinese government to reverse what it has been doing for years in this political shitshow. Chinese living in US are unfortunately sandwiched in the between and helpless.

I did something similar by installing Wireguard as part of Streisand and then PiHole on a VPS. One caveat was this combination accepted public DNS queries by default. You would need to block it on your own. Otherwise the experience was good
