I recommend blend2d: https://blend2d.com/ . Very well done, very fast. No GPU acceleration but it has a JIT and you can probably get further than you think without it.

oh puh-lease edit: having read the whole article now it's actually pretty even-handed, I guess mentioning Oppenheimer was just marketing?

Likely the goal would be to find new optimizations that were previously overlooked, then codify those like usual.

I'd rather have an optionally-owned pointer type so I can handle writing virtual methods that can return a value aliasing an already existing value or create a new one on demand. Otherwise you either have to roll your own or bloat you

Basically Ray Kurzweil's argument, he's been saying $1000 worth of compute will be able to match human performance around 2029 for decades now.

Disagree, once you know what you're looking for you can thread the needle pretty easily. I've worked in high-performance areas most of my career and it's pretty wild when I solve a leetcode problem for fun and can routinely

Honestly what a weird set of people. If you have to go out of your way to make sure people know you're not Nazis, maybe you're treading a little too close to dangerous waters. > It also means resisting any attempt by what Malc

Ah yes you're right that you have to be careful, it'll fold at multiples of the nyquist frequency and you want to make sure your SOI is entirely contained in one of those zones.

You have to have a band limited signal to sample anyways, where it's at in the spectrum doesn't matter. The first thing you'll do before feeding anything to an ADC is running it through a filter to make _sure_ it's band

I'm afraid you're mistaken (source: worked as DSP engineer for 15 years). Often you apply your filter around the RF frequency you want and then sample at a lower rate. You're right that the signal will get aliased doing tha

Yeah Traits give you more than just the type of the output, they let you specify how it must be called to get that trait, that's a key capability for writing generic code. Sure I can write a to_string() method but someone else will ca

This doesn't even seem that clever, just regular ol' use of mmap where there was none before. Wonder what other performance is being left on the floor. I'm convinced entire power plants could be retired if the world stopped

My defense is usually that it's ok to have a little pride of craftsmanship, and if you let people scratch that itch they'll be happier and more content in their jobs, making it a long-term cost saver.

Performance just isn't prioritized. If you spend a week optimizing making something faster, you just get hit with the ill-quoted premature optimization line and shamed for not working on higher priority tickets. Fine, I'll just

I don't like Javascript but you're mistaken on the performance part, even I have to give the JIT people props for how fast they've made the language in general.
