A 4 K dry cryostat’s refrigeration system usually eats about 4-5 kW. Not sure what’s going on here.

Sorry "morgtage.xls"? This makes me feel a bit pessimistic about the accuracy of the formulas.

OpenSCAD doesn't work with B-reps. The industry works with STEP/sld_prt/etc. files. It meets the needs of some 3D printing applications, but for generating parts procedurally with python, I've found it far more fruitful

There are no open source CAD systems that are near the maturity of commercial systems. FreeCAD is still severely lacking in features, though it may still meet your needs.

Why do you think that cloud computing would lend to the cleanliness or efficiency of their operations in a way that reduces the environmental burden? What stops them from using such services to extract oil more efficiently in the sense that

I’ve been working on quantum computing and quantum communication for 15 years now and what I really want people to know is that entanglement is “beyond classical correlation.” Correlation which is not beyond classical is shaking up a shoebo

You can’t tell AT ALL if there was entanglement with one trial. You need to prepare the same state many many times and compare correlations many many times to establish correlations to within some error bound.

No, you can’t tell if a particle has been measured or not _period_, without many identical copies of the same state and repeating the experiment many times.

For some collection of non-abelian anyons, the total state of the system will depend on how those anyons have been moved around each other. Thus, the paths encode a computation and the state, as measured by anyon fusion, is the result of th

it's the ground state of a system that has a big ol classical computer in it. Ideally I'd like to see it as the ground state of some simple hamiltonian with rashba and a magnetic field and some proximitized thing or whatever

Similar but this is much closer to a simulation of the behavior of the excitations of the systems that microsoft hopes to create. That said, it's very useful simulation that could provide similar utility. I guess the closest analogy mi

I've always found it to be a bit of a stretch when they say they've demonstrated a new phase of matter when the phase is being simulated by a quantum computer. They've simulated the phase -- but then you get into the same arg
