I'm going to think about this more. Ironically, I'm in a situation for a few days where I can't really focus on technology. It sounds like switch and/or restore are probably stable enough that they could be used instead

I agree, but I disagree about one aspect. For the most part, humans don't use reason all that much or all that deeply. We usually use intuitive thinking, and there is research showing that immediate intuitive responses are often better

As someone who does an hour of meditation a day, I don't think you need an app. I used to use one of the main ones but no longer do. You just need some kind of timer. What works best for me is actually the timer app on my Apple Watch,
