Isn't that pretty much what is happening with fuel taxes in Europe? Even though the price of oil is around half what it was a decade ago, fuel prices are still pretty much the same. https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-ma

My city has recently installed a load of EV chargers (in the city center there is on average one per sq km) and they all have Type 2, CCS/SAE and CHAdeMO connectors - so any EV can use then.

Is this a modern thing, or have there been fires like this since California was settled on by Europeans in 1700s? If so, how did the inhabitants deal with them then?

I switched to ThinkPads last year (first a X250, now T470s) and this was my big concern too. I just sat down one day and spent an hour or so tweaking the various options for the trackpad driver until I got it how I was used to from Apple. I

It's actually more like two hours. In the east of CET you have Niš, Serbia, which has daylight hours of 06:08 - 16:23. In the west you have Pontevedra, Spain with daylight hours of 08:02 - 18:26. Both cities are close to the same latit

Here here, I feel the same. I'm not really a fan of sports or working out, but doing physical activity for a job or such (in college I worked at a supermarket stacking shelves) I enjoy. My wife and I are thinking of buying and renovati

The microphone in Airpods is pretty bad too. One of my colleagues uses them paired to his Mac (maybe that's the issue?) and it sounds like the built in microphone on cheap laptops.

And this is exactly why any consumer device that relies on the cloud is a bad idea. I would never buy a Ring doorbell or Nest camera for the same reason - I'd always look for a version that can be used locally so I can host the softwa

I think the recent trend of anti-blue screens is something e-ink could get onto even more. A Kindle with a low colour temperature backlight that integrated well into something like Paper would be the perfect device to read HN on.

That should be true for any charitable donation - I'm surprised it isn't already. I wonder if the directors could face loosing their limited liability for this.

I recently installed an IKEA kitchen hood, and was surprised that the power connector only had two pins (IEC C17/18). The hood has a aluminium frame (albeit painted) with metal pole switches. Can someone explain why this doesn't n

On a similar note does anyone have any idea how to improve 4K performance with Intel graphics (i7-6600U). For me it's basically unusable as everything (even loading basic webpages like this) slows down, where as on Windows it works per
