I've embedded llama.cpp for a while now. There may be a point where it's not embeddable anymore, but for now it works great. My experience with the others is don't bother. The build systems and dependency management is truly

Cool. I watched it twice! I thought you meant the stack switching done by wasmtime, which is not "a handful of cycles," but I stand corrected: It's fiber/coro switching. Alfred, a friend of mine, gave a talk on using tho

That's an impressive feat if true, but I wonder when you would need it outside of a seriously threaded architecture. That is, the server you are embedded in has one thread per client or backend. In a modern server architecture I suspec

Not just that, but which device today doesn't have hardware virtualization where you are literally in a sandbox, running on the actual CPU with all the advanced instruction set extensions available to you? Some of these WASM run-times

I feel the same way. I think RISC-V has changed my opinion on the hardware aspect of things, and now for the first time I want to try to create a simple CPU at home. There is even a simpler RV32E spec, for those (like me) with little hardwa

Levers. Each company has MBAs that can pull a certain amount of levers each quarterly. Every now and then, the quarterly lever is the quality of customer support, until there's nothing left. In theory, companies make room for others wh

The Swedish Transport Agency says they are only able to ship license plates using PostNord according to regulation, so I'm not sure how exactly Tesla thought they were going to win this lawsuit.

I think if I had the opportunity to learn Rust, and some guidance so that I didn't have to do everything the hard way (essentially how I learned C and then C++), then I would! So far I have used Rust very little, but what I have seen I

My point is that I am acknowledging that C and C++ needs more discipline. I'm not saying we eliminated this class of bugs!

If you use MSVC maybe it's more of an issue, but on GCC and Clang we have __builtin_overflow_*. There are many variants: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Integer-Overflow-Builtins... I use them all the time

I agree. I'm using it both in the game server, the client and for scripting! So far I haven't really had any serious problems that would be related to unsafety. You just have to be disciplined. Source: https://medium.co

Considering that no matter what we do we will go to 2C, I'm not exactly understanding this article? The UN currently warns that we will go to 3C at the current rate: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023

A very good writeup of how it works. Especially the perfection or nothing thing. I found that Trello helps because the stickers you create can be very simple, and I always need a reminder.

I don't think you're forced to do it a certain way. The most mature RISC-V toolchain is the GNU toolchain, which is binutils + GCC + glibc/newlib/musl. Clang, GCC and all the libc's which are the foundation of most

A shadow stack is a separate stack that is only maintained by making function calls and returning according to what the CPU actually did. In theory you can't trample the stack, so it's both a security feature and a way to avoid we

Is static linking supported now? It's the one blocker for me to use C# in weird places. I'm good at hacking the underlying environment to make it work, but dynamic loading is not on the table.

This is wrong. WebAssembly doesn't care where you write inside the arena. See: https://gist.github.com/fwsGonzo/8d8d0d27847c2d5804bc2d8af2b... .. but it is safe to write anywhere in the arena!

Yes, so can any type of userspace sandboxing with speculation safe emulators. Virtualization also prevents these issues. So, you can safely use C from your gameboy emulator, RISC-V emulator, or WebAssembly emulator. The quality of the emula

Reading through this thread, I think that if the conclusion is to disallow misaligned 16-bit instructions, then not much has to happen. You technically only need to relink the programs to fix that issue. The question is really about how far

I didn't think about the potential benefits of fitting in icache. I managed to find this PDF that does admit that it has a modest 2-3% benefit whenever the code wouldn't normally fit in icache: https://forums.macrumors.
