What makes this story interesting is that he built a more valuable identity than the real William Woods did. This court case destroyed that value, as the hospital likely won't employ either of them, even though presumably Keirans was d

Guessing based on years old physics knowledge: Without the fluid, the surface of the stone appears foggy because it's diffusing light (like frosted glass.) The fluid creates a smooth surface on top of that which doesn't diffuse li

Do you have statistics to back up the relative safety of those activities? Lots of people get in trouble with car accidents because lots of people drive cars. But I would think that if you both drive and skydive, the latter is far more like

I'm not sure I would refer to this as "thinking errors." My model is that incels are members of an extremist ideology. They have their own core dissatisfaction, but the ideas are shared and reinforced in the community. Like o

I think the connotations are a little different. Self-confidence can include a sort of complacency (confidence in what you're currently doing), whereas agency seems to be more a will to figure things out, whatever it takes.

I grew up with compulsively playing online shooters. I still can't play them in moderation. I always end up playing to the point where it impacts my work, my social life, and my mood over the long term. Most of my friends acknowledge t

I got a used Precision 5540 (equivalent to XPS 15) after someone recommended it here on Hacker News and I've been pretty pleased with it. Newer versions (Precision 5560/70 etc) should be good as well.
