How close are you sitting to your laptop? I usually use 15.6" 1080p from about 60cm away and can't tell a difference from a higher resolution. If you search "retina distance calculator" then they say there's no bene

Airplanes are safe in part because we've already made all the mistakes and learned from them. How many (deadly, expensive) mistakes would it take to get lighter-than-air craft to the same point?

Looking at the marketing materials, it seems like it's just poorly explained, not a scam attempt. It's actually two batteries. The first is LFP which has poor energy density but wears slowly and so is used for daily trips, providi

These laptops can actually be upgraded with newer GPUs as well. They use a modular graphics card standard called MXM 3.0B, although not all GPUs are compatible. Seems like the 980m and 970m are popular choices: https://www.userbe

Well, maybe, but I think the parent comment had implicitly meant "should... [if you want to avoid cognitive impairment" rather than making any moral judgement on those who don't.

Usually, the Pixel Xa is a newer, more budget-oriented version of the Pixel X. "5G" variants of phones seem to be totally different phones, not just a radio upgrade.

Why can't hackers just brute-force word combinations? If there are 170k English words, and 95 possible password characters, then it seems to me that 170,000^3 ~= 95^8 so a 3-word English phrase would only be about as safe as an 8-chara

The Pico-8 full environment (e.g. command line) is not open source, but the developer also released a standalone emulator which is free and open source, called Tac08: https://github.com/0xcafed00d/tac08

You mean, a shadow cast by a building onto a cloud? That seems like the most plausible explanation, but if that's the case, why isn't it a constant feature, why is it only appearing now? Also, it looks more sharply defined than I

I sleep in a tent in the backyard all summer. The cooler temperatures mean I can use heavy blankets, which I find comforting, and the light makes it easy to get up early in the mornings. It's just a Walmart-style tent with a twin mattr

I think he mentions trying 5ghz somewhere in the thread, but his house's internal construction interferes with the signal. It is a little odd how long it takes for someone to suggest that, though.

It sounds like your frustration is with people who should be doing more work than they are. I'm not sure that OP is looking for a job where they can wriggle out of responsibilities. It may be they are just looking for a job where the r

I think Caltech's solution may depend on only accepting a small subset of the population. If that's the case, it's obviously not practical for most universities.
