Not entirely related, but using Git nonetheless: I recently wrote some proprietary software that uses LibGit2Sharp (a .NET wrapper around libgit2) to store user changes to text and some configuration in a Git repository. The text “diffs” ve

The “problem” is that Giphy is widely integrated into other software/web applications (like Microsoft Teams). That’s also what makes it so valuable.

If your message contains framework-dependent data, it wasn’t decoupled. For example, in a typical web API, all the stuff concerning HTTP endpoints, JSON, OpenID Connect or whatever should be entirely separate from your domain logic. I’ve

It’s just the feeling! :-) vBulletin 4 was also okay in the end, but I always thought vBulletin 5 was trying to be too many things at once. It’s just too modern! I understand, of course, that the online community landscape has changed since

I actually believe vBulletin 3 is where it’s at! With modern forums, it’s mostly the UX that sucks. PWAs that never recover from errors, endless scrolling, stuff like that. Also * Falsehoods forum developers believe about network reliabilit

Match Group is one of the worst internet companies I know. I was quite surprised when I found out they own basically every online dating thing. I’m not sure whether… innovation in the online dating space would do us any good, but I’m positi

Yes. I only tried Destiny 2 because no other game (that was available without extra purchase) was of interest to me. It worked very well and I _really_ liked the experience. Just open the website in Chrome, click on the game you want to pla

The Diagnostic Tools window is implemented as a web view, probably since its introduction in… VS2017?. I’m not aware of any other GUI parts implemented using web technologies. Node.js processes are invisible backend stuff.

The Robot interface thing is actually relatively new (some years). Before they introduced that, all your IP addresses (and maybe subnets, too?) were delivered to your physical MAC address, period. Wanted to use a VM? Maybe use proxy_arp or

Well, maybe not specific speeds, but… :-D What you're saying makes sense, of course. I found some hundreds of meters of discrepancies in some rides (Apple Watch 4 vs. Karoo 2). Less than 1% of the total distance, of course.

I wonder if cycling is also affected. Theoretically, the watch should be in an almost ideal position on flat handlebars, if less so on drop bars.

Yes, it’s Hetzner. The magic ingredient is ipvlan , a special interface type loosely related to macvlan . An ipvlan interface is tied to a physical interface. Whether traffic goes to the virtual interface is decided based on the IP addr

I fucking love LXC! It allowed me to “virtualize” several physical servers on a single newer server, keeping all of the original setup (except some networking changes). Combined with ipvlan , I could even work around the MAC address restri

I’m not referring to Teams power users, but PC power users in general. You know, people that actually care about snappy performance, consistent behavior and whatnot. Working with the PC instead of against it. Knowing why . My experience is

Teams truly is that bad. But perhaps it takes power users to see that. A regular user might just give up instead of ranting about it on the net. It’s not that it doesn’t work. It’s that it’s not reliable and performance is bad.

I’d just like to address one part, the name. I do not think it is arrogant at all. Instead, I feel it’s just… lazy. In the past, I also created userscripts for various websites. I eventually created collections called Better$Sitename, e.g.

Is it though? I guess it is for machine learning. But do games require that much memory? Remember that GeForce is the consumer line. I would expect it to mainly target the gamer market.

If you’re living in a country with reasonably low levels of corruption and a somewhat functional judiciary, why not use your country’s TLD? It also helps when verbally relaying your mail address.

You could always use a service like Mailgun to work around problems like that. It could help with IP/network reputation problems, too. I think that’s a reasonable option if it enables running a mail server at home.

I also like statically typed everything. But I have to admit, some of the more adventurous stuff people do with JavaScript (that just works because it is dynamically typed) is pretty ergonomic. Even with TypeScript it is often next to impos
