> … GitHub forces you to be a slave of Microsoft … Relax, the hyperbole is out of control here. I use GitHub and am certainly not a slave.

No permanent relief. It goes away when I meditate but that is temporary. The first few weeks I started vyvanse it completely disappeared, even if I focused on it, but once my body normalized to it, it came back.

Modern tooling and lack of language features does not make it easier to design a program. I have seen self-proclaimed C developers struggle with managing the ownership and lifecycle of memory in a sane way.

When you write “they have literally 1 data scientist to monitor the whole non-western world”, I assume you mean Sophie Zhang. I agree with a lot of what she said, and I mean a lot, but you have a misconception. The integrity org, back when

That’s the thing. This whole metaverse push has been in the works for a long time. All that ad money being funneled into R&D. It does not mean they will make a killer product. But behind closed doors they have some amazing tech.

I have yet to meet a frontend dev who called a backend dev an idiot. I have met plenty of backend devs who have indirectly called frontend devs idiots.

I have heard from a psychologist that folks often confuse introversion with social anxiety. Introversion is having your default focus tending to be inwards, whereas social anxiety can make situations like you are describing unbearable. Obvi

So.. build the oil pipelines because think of the poor people? We already have an affordability crisis and an extreme wealth gap. I don’t buy what you are selling, but even if true the best option is still to get onto renewable energy. The

It’s not a real thing, you hit the nail on the head for pop culture talking about chemicals and neuroscience. Dopamine is responsible for many things, and you can’t remove all dopamine from your brain. Here are two separate psychiatrists d

Even within a single AWS region you can land in completely different data centers. Perhaps it doesn’t require as many people as some think, but the large cloud businesses run at a larger scale than your mom-and-pop data center.

Funny enough you learn on a percentage basis their turnover rates are greatly exaggerated, and some years are lower than a “healthy organization” of their size would like. No job is the best job, but you will learn a lot about tech and soft

When your code is under 200 LOC and not expected to be maintained for the next 10 years.. then a lot of the things you just mentioned don’t matter as much. This is not for running in an enterprise but for exercising the brain.

Good for you, their point still holds up. Languages like Python and Go are more readable than awk and bash. They are designed to be that way, and many many years of effort have been put into them for that specific purpose. Whereas if you kn

I would much rather have a locked down phone which is secure, as I rely on it for many important functions in my life. I’ll leave the cheap web servers to a Raspberry Pi, CDN, or VPS thank you very much.

I think the experience of banging your head against the wall (for a bit) can be valuable. As long as the culture of the team encourages this and offers an escape hatch after a few hours (or whatever timeframe is appropriate for the problem)
