Very interesting that google chose to do this instead of fixing the software that caused the limitation. No wonder that their products are seen as a joke in the business world.

I believe this is more folklore than science. A significant color shift happens only for a couple of minutes during sunrise and sunset. The change in brightness is probably significant, but it is hard to believe that the color has a signifi

It is quite interesting that 2700K is often considered to be a "normal" color temperature, even though it is much yellower than sunlight (around 5000K, depending on atmospheric scattering). This stems purely from a technological l

You would probably have to measure it in years or decades of equivalent coal plant emissions. According to a 1978 paper [1], a 1 GW coal power plant releases something like 50 GBq per year. The Minnesota Department of Health did not release

There is remarkably little information in this press release. The volume of leaked water is meaningless without specifying the tritium concentration. Even if they have nothing to hide, they certainly make it look like they do.

The timing is determined by the sample clock of the DAC. The network switch has zero influence on it. If the system has multiple DACs and/or ADCs, their clocks can usually be synchronized via BNC cables.

The input of the DFT is real, but the output is complex. Filtering in the Fourier domain means that the DFT of the image is multiplied with that of the filter. The resulting complex array is than converted into an output image by taking

This is wrong. The blurred image contains only intensity information, but reversing the convolution in frequency space would require phase information as well. A simple Gaussian blur is not reversible, even in principle.

Most journals completely re-do the layout in some desktop publishing software and only copy over the text and figures. It is a fair bit of work to make everything consistent, for example formulas and references. I have only seen author-subm

This does not match my experience in science publishing. Scientific journals usually have at least a few paid full-time and part-time editors. They also do their own copy editing and typesetting of the manuscripts. The differences between t

Somebody has to pay for the scientific editors, copy editing, typesetting, and infrastructure. Of course the open access publishing fees of Nature & co. are completely outrageous, but even non-profit publishers have to charge something.

X11 cannot handle the average user connecting an average laptop to an average external monitor (no usable per-screen scaling). Maybe this was good enough in the 80s, but today it is seriously holding back the platform.

As far as we know, time and space are continuous. Various aspects of quantum field theories would not work in a discretized universe.
