Personally, I wish I could have more side projects to post them on my Github and use them as a developer portfolio. I have a few years of experience as a Web Dev, but sadly my GitHub is barren from code.

If your current job can't motivate you, work on a side project or look for another job. And don't be the weakest link in the (faulty) chain. It's leaves a better impression by notifying external inefficiency and quitting beca

To me, mindfulness meditation helped me a lot with concentration because it was like learning mental aikido, in the sense of not trying to remove invasive information, but redirect it in a way that doesn't affect my focus. Everything s

This fits with my personal model of the brain composed of a distributed system made of millions of dumb organisms screaming in coordination to create a bigger, more intelligent being. Kinda like an ant colony, CUDA and Kubernetes mixed toge

I used to save everything I did in the past. Over time, I've found that I almost never needed to access those files and most of that wasn't even useful for the kick of nostalgia. Old games? I already replayed them to exhaustion. I

Yes but this looks more like habit disruption more than "biologically gaining weight somehow". People that lift often eat more. But mostly protein, and stimulating muscle every day makes sure it will get developed and consume more

Potatoes may be pure carbs, but they're full of water. When I eat a portion of mashed potatoes (I cook them with very little butter), it feels like I've eaten a very dense soup.

It CAN be true if you get outside America. In South America, considering the past economic crises, we're somewhat better than our parents.

IMHO that's because Apple was the first to bother optimizing an ARM CPU for performance instead of battery life. The performance per watt in ARM exceeded x86 since long ago, but most manufacturers used that feat to create mobile CPUs i

And how can that be done? Sometimes you simply can't compete with another country with really devalued currency and very low wages
45.
by frostwarrior 4y ago
That's the problem, people usually talk about a rich country as synonymous to a good quality of life for the average man. And often it isn't A rich country is a country with money and capital. It doesn't mean that the country

We should ask also how do countries get rich amd also stay democratic and free. Saudi Arabia may be rich but that doesn't mean it's a great place to live

That's the classic "only coder" mindset. Instead of being uncomfortable learning about software architecture, side effects or even pure functions, tries to solve every problem with for and while loops.

"Real impostors don't have impostor syndrome" To me, that is even better. It means that you care and you are in an uncomfortable zone, which means you are probably growing.

Sadly, I already tried it and it used to crash a lot, specially when I had too many tabs (10+) open. The some random fly-by-night chrome fork is the most sane option I know since the only option left is Brave

If you are on mobile you should check Bromite. It's a fork of Chromium with an ad blocker and better privacy (and not bs privacy like Brave)

That would make sense if: - There weren't other methods to prevent tampering - Governments didn't want anti-corruption methods without having admin powers to exclude themselves.

IMHO IT should be less geeky an "leet" and more professional. The quality of a product shouldn't rest solely on having faith that you hired good programmers by chance.

Good engineers are professional engineers. A good engineer does a good job on what's expected on them. A good engineer does not have to be a leet hacker, in the same way a good architect does not have to be a geeky concrete fanboy.

It's more about professionalism and stricter standards of engineering and less about being "good despite bad context". You can hire the best artisans for your pot making company and make some of the best pots. However, sooner

I agree. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most projects started by some form of organization end up being dead after handing them off to the community. That is, unless they make their code from the ground up to be as most readable and modu

Did you start working since the Windows NT era? I'm curious. IMHO, windows things aside, the NT kernel is an impressive feat of engineering and I'm surprised it's still going after so many years.

My approach to that is to follow xkcd advice with an emergency password which looks less like a random string but more like a real world phrase. I try to use my local language and some obscure local slang to avoid being guessed by an intern
