I did a lot of leetcode when I first started. Nowadays, and especially in this market, it's not hard to find companies not doing any leetcode style interviews. If you have a decent GitHub profile and years of experience you can outrigh

For my own sake I'm probably going to be completely anon, but you should check out the following site for a community of overemployed folks: https://overemployed.com/

I guess technically the math works out that way :) In my opinion I'm seriously mediocre as an engineer. Slightly above average at best. I'm just good at managing my time, which is more of a business/personal skill than any en

I think it's an apt analogy. You seem to be implying that all landlords are huge corporations that are gobbling up all the properties out there. Individual landlords like myself are small time. I'm pretty much a mom and pop restau

I also dislike working at these places. This is something I'll be doing for a few years and then leaving corporate life with a big pile.

I was going to spend some time justifying my rental portfolio but alas I fear it will fall on deaf ears. Thank you for your somewhat constructive criticism. I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way. Given your username, I assume you ar

I purposely job hunt for low performing teams/companies who are willing to pay for experience. Also, managing my calendar religiously is a must.

Senior to Staff positions at medium to large private or mid cap public companies expect little from their engineers :). Definitely not 10x and I suck at leetcode style problems. I'm probably a 2xer who acts like a 1xer. That's the

Currently at 1.8m ish total comp: - 1.2m cash - 300k RSUs (probably worthless or I leave before 4 year vesting cliff) - 200k equity (only one job is at a publicly traded company) - <150k cash bonus

Maybe, which means yes it is legal. Will anybody come after me? Doubt it's worth it to come after an engineer making 250K and will work at your company for less than 2 years.

I've been working multiple remote jobs for the past 4 years. I'm currently working 4 full time engineering roles and a part time contract. It's been tough but a great experience. The main struggle is scheduling and making sur

I work around 40-50 hours per week. Most of the teams that I work on are pretty low performing and the actual work involved isn't too bad. I try not to submit anything early when I'm finished.

I became a multi millionaire this past decade, and I think it's now become even easier to become one. Here are the steps I took: 1. Work remotely 2. Live in a low cost of living area 3. Work multiple remote jobs (I currently wo

Wow. I need to step my game up... I've been working 4 jobs SWE roles remotely (3 full time, 1 part time) for several years now. I have to admit that the most challenging aspect of working multiple jobs is finding the right balance of w

Uncomfortable/unpopular reasons: 1. More money, companies are throwing money at engineers 2. Companies are having trouble hiring and it's getting easier to get a job 3. Inflation concerns, need more money 4. Most jobs su

Agreed. I'm fully aware that the pay jump train ends sometime. I recommend people take advantage of this tactic when they're young. My own tactic is to move jobs often, but also take on multiple remote roles at the same time.

Agreed. I shouldn't have assumed the OP was an engineer. This strategy is definitely software engineering specific for the most part.

There isn't a law requiring companies to give COLA raises so most companies won't. The reason they don't need to? You're not accounting for COLA yourself, so why should a company? Do COLA adjustments in your own job/

I have to work at places that have staggered standups and meetings. 7am standup here, 10 am standup there. That kind of thing. I miss the occasional random meeting but I let people know. I also underachieve in terms of moving up the corpora

That's literally what the article is describing, and most people wouldn't consider that fraud, merely incompetence or poor corporate incentives. I'm just leaning into the expectations and ironically doing it better?

Yep, I've asked before and consulted a few lawyers. Not actually fraud. Kind of a grey area unless I'm explicitly stealing trade secrets or IP. As for getting fired, I've never been fired but I've also never been caught.
