"Live the Silicon Valley Startup Experience" Sounds like trouble to me. I'm generally skeptical of anything that tries to polish and make accessible an inherently risky and difficult process. If you're using Startup House as a way to test

No, so flip that: I don't have access to any FB info now, and I don't need it for anything, so I'd like to find a way to validate people without bringing out the privacy concerns of FB connect. It's an incentivized survey that we'll distrib

I don't know how I feel about this. It's my favorite book, and I've read it many times, but I feel like it's something that either means a lot to you or means nothing. It doesn't translate very well beyond how you personally take it, and

Just awesome. Open source at its best: wanted the fix, wrote the patch. Hopefully pg^H^Hupstream will accept it after vetting.

I think that this would just skew the leaderboard. Everyone would be following the famous members of HN (pg, bucheit, etc), and locally popular users would be distant seconds, while the normal user would make up a long tail of comparativel

I was asking about the second derivative; if d(users)/dt wasn't constant, then d^2(users)/dt2 is nonzero and eternal september risk is fairly high (assuming HN isn't shrinking). If you assume idealized user growth (which doesn't happen --

Or have glass walls. Facebook's growth rate is enormous, but it still retains its character because your personal Facebook's growth rate is actually rather small. Not that this has any obvious parallels to HN.

Yes but easier to control access. You don't usually want to give out your email address as a form of general ID, and there are all kinds of clever email-hiding methods used to keep from being crawled by spammers (i.e., foo at bar dot com o
