A little off-topic, but maybe someone can answer this. I sometimes use Excel when I want to see a CSV file formatted nicely, but apparently Excel has bad support for CSV files, opening them unparsed (e.g. each line of the CSV taking up a si

Yeah, one could make a similar argument with self-hosting: How the data is transferred physically through undersea optical cables, how internet routing works and the complexity of it down to how the hardware underlying his Nextcloud install

I used to have a pod machine, and just found it didn't make very good coffee. It didn't really taste like espresso. In fact, it didn't taste very good at all. After that, I started using a french press, which was nice, but I

Interesting bit: > The program which synced the host list generated by consul template with the HAProxy server state had a bug. It always attempted to find a slot for new webapp instances before it freed slots taken up by old webapp inst

Honestly surprised (and disappointed) about all the climate change denial on this site.

Your experience certainly sounds bad, but none of this is normal; mail sound, USB-C cable brittleness, 1password slowness, all of it works nicely for me.

Ha, I imagine it would have been almost a fulltime job to prevent takeovers on large Efnet channels!

Making it harder also heightens the bar so low-quality or malicious apps don't get in.

I wonder if most developers that trash on PHP for trivial issues like seen in this thread haven't been using it for many years, or had a bad experience (e.g. maintaining a legacy app). Some developers live in a kind of technical vacuum

I guess it depends. As a solo entrepreneur, I do it all the time, because I care about my customers. Working at Instagram, probably not, since it wouldn't be my job to handle support.

I think it's worth acknowledging over your customers that the bug has caused them lost time or other kinds of issues. Whether you do that with an apology, it doesn't really matter, but I know I'd personally feel better when a

Sure, I guess you can also do that. I'd still advise to not go out and "fix" everything the minute you boot up OS X. It's worth learning how and why it works before you hack it.

It's honestly not that bad, but I'd advise to go into it with an open mind. A lot of switchers get angry at macOS when their habits from other systems don't work with it (e.g. wanting to maximize all the windows)

Feels like Apple is just continually making the Safari browser worse. I think they just want to push people towards native apps so they have full control. Apple always wants control. First they prevented plugins like uBlock, made it very ex

I mean, yes, that seems like how you would do it. If you've lived in your city for a while I don't think you'd really need maps all that often. I still remember printing out routes in the age before GPS! Also, regarding texts

Not sure what the issue is either, once you add the necessary permissions for your apps, it doesn't ask again. Only complaint is Apple seem to ignore long-standing bugs that have been there for years, like monitors switching around eve

Good points. Difficult and unforeseen issues like these are exactly why you'd use a framework of some kind, where thousands of users have already tested and fixed various issues.
