I remember this from 2014: http://www.datapointed.net/2014/10/maps-of-street-grids-by-o... Where streets are coloured on the map by orientation. While most US cities are a wash of one colour, Europe is much more c

Wait, in stealth mode it's listening for any text selected, even in other programs? This is a bit mind boggling - what's to prevent any program listening to any other (like a password manager for example)? Is this sort of access n

The famous experiment is the "Sally Anne task", which goes like this: The child is in a room with Sally and Anne. Sally has a basket and Anne has a box. Sally puts the marble in her basket and leaves the room. While she's out

JS is fine, as long as it has purpose. I think the original idea of progressive enhancement needs a renaissance: use little bits of JS to improve the lives of people who have it enabled (e.g., by autocompleting an input, filtering a large f

Partly this is because the Barbican is exceptionally well kept (much brutalist architecture is associated with slum estates, whereas the Barbican is mostly inhabited by richer people). The concrete is clean, the ponds and fountains are work

Like any school of archeticture, there are good examples and bad. Largely, over time, only the good examples survive. The older the school, the higher percentage of it will be good, surviving examples. I find the Barbican in London — which

I love writing python, but the lack of decent map/reduce/etc. (that are really good in Javascript - the other language I mainly write) hurts. Stuff like your example really feels burdensome and inelegant in comparison.

Because if you want a nice functional keyboard you can just buy one. Making this deliberately useless keyboard prevents it from ever being a primarily functional item. This allows you to treat the project entirely as a creative endeavor, an

There is (at least one) example of this in Cambridge, UK. King's College built a new building in the 50's that has some windows that overhang the wall into neighboring Queens' College. When Queens' built a new (one of th

Any opaque, non-black (or very dark) paint, yes. You can add other pigments to paint, but if you want that paint to be opaque rather than translucent, you need to add titanium dioxide (or something that'll have the same effect).
