I don't think it's about whether it does harm learning it: I think the problem is the relative barrier to entry that it creates for people who don't already know this information. Friction like this reduces social mobility an

But isn't this exactly what the author is demonstrating? You can use the higher language of Python with its garbage collection, and since the critical parts are in C anyway, it ends up being competitive to the pure C implementation.

We use CSVs a lot and a good schema for a metadata file would be very useful. Rather than making up my own, does anybody know of a good, well-adopted metadata format for CSV files? I found https://specs.frictionlessdata.io/

This might be a silly question, but is there a reason why git can't also diff binary files? If I have a huge binary file and I change a few bytes in the middle, what's stopping Git just checking that in as a diff? I don't see

I usually use my phone in greyscale mode as the colourful rainbow candy is something I'd prefer my brain not to be bombarded with. So far I've found the icons of the apps I use easy to distinguish between even in grayscale, but I&

Definitely this. When software silently thinks it knows what I wanted and silently does the wrong thing, sometimes you find out a long time later, and it ends up being very expensive, particularly when it’s to do with data analysis. I would
