I’ve also had a really hard time understanding why people praise him so much, I’ve tried multiple times to listen to his stuff and it’s just super disappointing. Worse than most lay people in depth. For people interested in AGI there are ma

Eh - I don’t agree, his rhetoric and the macho over confidence is similar to a lot of people I grew up with that support him (that are working class).

That’s kind of case-in-point - it’s high status in low class circles.

I think this is wrong and misses the point. A lot of his political popularity is because while he’s rich, the way he speaks is “working class”. He’s a good example of the difference we’re talking about.

Welfare may be a bad example because I think there are more white people on welfare in general? Would potentially be evidence of class divide. I think there’s truth in what you’re saying though - single family zoning is an easy example. Als

It loops back around at the top. It’s why there’s an eccentric rich person trope and why it’s called “fuck you” money. If you’re totally financially independent you’re more free to do what you want, independent of class behavior expectation

Yeah - I agree with all of this. On a related note, I think the US approach to dismissing class is preferable to the UK where it’s very explicit. While both approaches have issues, when it’s explicit in the culture people seem to discrimina

This is highly dependent on university - I didn’t notice it much where I went (RPI), but it’s a lot more obvious at Stanford.

Even without the race element - there’s definitely a class thing. I noticed it when I moved to the Bay Area after growing up in western New York. The types of foods people ate or didn’t eat, the restaurants people would or would not go to.

The arguments I’ve seen have specifically been about hydrogen in the context of EVs (specifically almost always as a way to dismiss EVs). - The trade-offs work in favor of EVs, hydrogen has a similar distribution problem to gasoline (fuelin

Main thing I miss from Spotify is the discover weekly playlist. I started using Apple Music because Spotify’s attempts to ruin podcasts by making them exclusive to their platform irritated me. Discover weekly is a really great thing though

Moneystuff had a good post that touched on this today. Even if they don’t pay, the scammers buy puts on the public stock for the companies they’re ransoming so they profit off of blowing them up too. I’d imagine that’s easier to track and s

It also gives some context to Ted Kaczynski - when I learned that he was possibly dosed on massive amounts of LSD and screamed at while in college. It's not a huge leap from there to why he broke down and became the unabomber. https:&

Tokyo and Singapore come to mind - it requires proper incentives to be in place. The US is a mess given the incentives towards home ownership as an investment. The Bay Area and California make this incentive worse with Prop 13.

I don’t think it’s the building that creates gentrification - it’s the lack of supply. Increasing supply to meet demand should reduce prices. Not building to keep housing crappy enough to reduce demand doesn’t work (and doesn’t everyone pre

I guess I've had more issues with it. Line of site is often a pain with things in front of the TV or appliances in TV stands behind a cabinet. The responsiveness is often slow (granted this is the fault of the TV's UI/softwar

I like the idea of one cable to an external box of many inputs that lives in the tv stand. It separates out the input box from the display (makes it easier to plug things into) and allows just one cable to come from the TV. You can also hav

It's not OLED, also looks pretty cheap? I don't want a crappy, cheap, panel with no smart features. I want a premium panel without smart features. Think like Apple Pro Cinema Display in TV form.
