Videogames provide fake achievement and an easy thing to do to occupy you - I think some people are more vulnerable to this kind of thing than others. For me, the fake achievement feels fake and I don't get much satisfaction out of it

Yeah - I think it's highly dependent on what your parents are like. I've known people who lived at home for a year or two to save money, but I wouldn't have been able to have any independence.

They can probably just get a roommate to cover the tax and ramen expense or door dash one day a week or something. Having no rent cost is pretty big.

I think it's more possible than others are suggesting, but I think there are exceptions. There is no good competitor to YouTube - there are a lot of bad ones yes, but no good one. I'd argue this is objective fact. I use fastmail a

I’m not an expert, but my guess at an example would be bees. Complex communication via dances about food sources. Learned attacks against murder hornets to defend the hive. Probably what I would look at first.

You may want to rethink the safe deposit box: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/19/business/safe-deposit-box... - they’re not very safe and the banks aren’t interested in the service.

Yeah - you should still use a credit card, but you don't need your bank's account for that. In fact, bank credit cards are among the worst in terms of rewards. You'd be better off with a different one most likely.

The culture that would do that without recognizing why it's not as simple as 'just allowing' something is what leads to every tablet except the iPad sucking. They want the quality bar to be high - they make different products

I suspect most people are not using bank accounts as one account among many for financial diversification - the bank account is their sole account. My question could have been more specific - I see little reason to prefer a bank to fidelity

Fair point - I rarely deal with cash (and when I do I can just give it to a friend and have them apple pay or Venmo me).

I haven’t personally used both seriously, consensus when I searched around to consider switching was that Fidelity’s software/service was better so I stayed.

I'm not sure why anyone uses banks instead of just using Fidelity for everything. You get a brokerage, you can have your retirement accounts there, you get free checks, debit card with free ATM access, software that's best in clas

Yeah and I liked it - good tongue-in-cheek satire that exaggerated a lot of things that have some basis in truth. It was ultimately a fictional show though and life in silicon valley is a lot more boring than that the vast majority of the t

I don't know if I'd go that far - I think dev environment set up is a massive pain, especially for newbies and it scares a lot of people away from development because of constant issues. Solving this would be helpful for teaching

Starlink is a life saver for this situation. Family in Placerville CA went from unusable <1mbps viasat to 50-190mbps overnight. I hope it puts all the geostationary satellite companies into bankruptcy.

The only thing I want to pay for is ad removal. I’d pay $10/month for Twitter without ads in a second. I already pay for YouTube premium, and while I wish they removed tracking in addition to the ads - it’s still great.
