That’s if you could have afforded to pay the tax on the $2,000,000 of phantom profit you had until this point, which no one can. You don’t get that back unless you somehow fire everyone so you can offset income and expenses without more amo

That’s literally the point of this entire thread. This change taxes you on profit you never made, and specifically targets software companies. It’s insane.

It is insane. If they don’t fix it a lot of companies (and their owners) are going to go bankrupt.

Also: this specifically singles out software development for ??? reasons. Office Manager: 100% expense. Software Engineer: 20% over 5 years (actually only 10% for the first year). If they’re international then 6.67% over 15 years. Not onl

Also, the core team should use their Canadian (or whichever country they have earliest file date in) to file for a WIPO/Madrid mark.

There’s literally no way any of the filed trademarks will be granted if the core team files opposition. Don’t waste your time “negotiating”.

Yeah. Now that CPUs are insanely powerful and you have NVMe SSDs etc the bottleneck is always memory.

Absolutely amazing how many billion $+ companies are single homed for DNS. I wonder how much they spend on multi-AZ redundant architectures...

I moved to the US from Australia (not entirely my decision -- long story) and I regret it every day. If I was picking today I'd move to New Zealand. Optimize your life for happiness instead of money.

“YOU HAVE been ordered to Iraq (i - RAHK) as part of the world-wide offensive to beat Hitler.” I always laugh when Americans say eye Raq or eye Ran. But apparently this incorrect pronunciation goes all the way back to 1943. Wild.

It doesn’t even matter because Congresspeople can “insider” trade like this —- it’s not illegal. I think Sen Gillibrand has a bill to address this called the STOCKS Act which she introduces every Congress but it never goes anywhere.

Weird take —- kind of the “640kb should be enough for anybody” but about one specific CPU that we know is about to get replaced with the M1X/M2. Unsure what the point is here. And there are plenty of workloads which are easily parallel

The thing is... everyone knows this. The people writing the code, the people designing the cars, the people allowing the testing, etc etc. What we're seeing in these videos is basically unusable and will never be cleared to drive by it

It's just a broken, entrenched system. I personally know a CEO who moved to SV, was worth something like $100m+, and the bank wouldn't give him a home loan because he didn't have the right credit score yet. He was literally b

Even FAANG exec's aren't allowed in, last time I checked. NZ doesn't care about that sort of thing. Only if you have $$$ to put in somewhere. But maybe things got loosened up a little bit lately, pre-Delta, plus we don't

I just want to know how he's getting into NZ since the border is closed to non-citizens and people who can't prove existing residency. Asking for a friend, who's me, also trying to move to NZ. :)

I quit Twitter on March 20th and it was the best thing I’ve done in a long, long time. The funny thing was that it starts sending you random notifications from people you don’t even follow or have the bell on for as a dark pattern to get yo

This reminds me of one particular company where the press friendly founder back story is all about bootstrapping with credit cards when in reality both founders had millionaire parents who had invested a whole bunch into it.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say it's bad or whatever. It's super cool! I'm a big fan of fly.io. I just don't see how something like this actually works in a way where you can reason about transaction orderin
