FWIW, these are classic panic attacks. Usually the stressor is obvious, but sometimes it's not and it's something you've left unresolved that your subconscious gets caught up on from time to time. It might not be the talks th

Well, agree to disagree here as I’ve seen it with my own eyes, but it’s kind of besides the point. Is it a coincidence that the same company that makes Excel is trying to… “democratize” and/or de-specialize programming? I don’t really

That's not really how it's going to go though. Just look at what your average person is able to accomplish with Excel. Your own example of the CEO becoming a CTO can be used in every level and part of the business. Now the recepti

LOL. But you actually make a good point here. GPT-3 can replace most comms / PR type jobs since they all sound like Exec-speak.

Are those developers worried about having their jobs replaced by a code-writing AI? :) I mean... why would 95% of developer jobs exist with this tech available? You just need that 5% of devs who actually write novel code for this thing to l

To add to this: there are people who earn minimum wage doing what some might call menial jobs (or 3 jobs back to back) and they work 10x harder than the average startup programmer or founder. They might not have gone to school at all. Or th

It's just a Ponzi scheme where everyone is invested in the scheme because they hold crypto of some kind. Then one day someone will wake up, decide they don't want that kind of exposure, and the whole thing collapses.

Why would you completely exit a winning trade that you have more insight into than most people since you’re the sole supplier of the primary component in the thing if you thought it was going to have a higher ROI than other investments? … y

As someone who's spent the last 11 days or so helping debug a bug in a live QUIC implementation, I'm... sort of unconvinced that it's a good idea in general. Every implementation (maybe not Google's?) is just a poorly

Gamification feels paternalistic and almost exploitative after a while, because these things tend to skew towards paying great developers in low wage countries almost nothing to find and fix bugs. See also: Hacker One.

Dell (and, really, all server providers apart from Supermicro) have crazy markups on storage. It's where they make most of their margin. And then, most of the time, the drives they sell come on custom sleds that they don't sell se

The problem is once you connect Jira to Confluence to Team Calendars to Crowd to BitBucket Server you're very deep into the lock-in. Nobody has either the time or the will to switch because, while all the software kind of sucks, it d

I like how something is “auto-healing” when it’s like… has `Restart=on-failure` in systemd. Anyway, it’s always DNS. Always. “Unfortunately, that allowed something as simple as a corrupted file to crash down multiple layers of redundancy wi
