This is so weird to me. I’ve worked in wildly successful global companies to which I have contributed wildly successful work collaborating with people I have never once met in person, over years of working with them. I am, emphatically, not

What I love deeply about this reply, is that the "you think about the Roman Empire?" people would absolutely gesticulate wildly, then point, and breathlessly exclaim "SEE? I DO NOT DO THIS!" I mean, I get you. I just w

In my head, there's now a "Number of days since I thought about the Roman Empire" sign and it just went to 0 when I read this headline. Though I feel like this should sneak by on a technicality, namely that I didn't th

Pretty sure I passed some sort of test with my wife when I told her "Oh, think about it and not in the context of it coming up in a book or legal concept, but just sit and ponder the Empire? Once every six months or so?" but the

Oh absolutely, but I'm sort of sampling from the group on this thread. There's a surprising amount of "just mute it" as if the burden of not hearing slurs should fall on the hearer. Purely as a practical matter, a privat

I'm just surprised there are apparently that many people who are (a) running around yelling racial slurs (b) as if it is a routine thing people do and (c) equating yelling hate speech as "swearing". I mean, I grew up with goa

The best baseball game I ever saw was Greg Maddux's 77-pitch complete game. There are a distressing number of people who would consider it boring (MOAR HOME RUNS!), but it was an absolute masterclass in trajectories, velocities and psy

From a layperson's perspective, "discovered" is doing a LOT of work in the linked article given it appears to be a hypothetical construct (topological soliton) within a hypothetical construct (string theory).
