It's not clear to me how the streams api did it, but it's clear to me now that the count of a range of integers is just the end minus the start. This is a fast operation, and I'm not sure if it was performed at compile time,

Alternatively, it can be solved at compile time with the streams api long start = System.currentTimeMillis(); long count = IntStream.rangeClosed(Float.floatToIntBits(0.0f), Float.floatToIntBits(1.0f)).count(); Syst

Everything I've seen, including from the CCP, projects that Chinese population is already in decline, and will likely halve by the end of the century. Do you have projections that shows otherwise? Yes, immigration could change this in

It's not clear to me that we have proof that it was a malicious actor. Was it perhaps AWS automation testing out the validity of the credentials before applying the leaked credential policy?

Literacy rates in India look to be ~80% and climbing about 1% per year. Obviously it'll reach an asymptote, but it's looking like India already surpasses the US in this regard. Of course, given the large population, more Indians a

I wonder if the Amazon homepage is at a local maximum. They can't A|B their way to further optimizations anymore. It sure is a mess.

I would love to know their metrics for the different user experiences. I generally do not mind what they've done with the main page, and android app. The reactions on hackernews clearly do not share that sentiment, but I have to wonder

Interesting. Is that a service banks offer? I suppose that it would mean that the bank truly could not lend against deposits that use this mechanism, so I wonder how much they would charge for this.

What do we expect small businesses to even do with their cash? It's conceivable that many of them have more than $250k for payroll at any given time. Without a solution, we run a bank run risk _at all times_. This seems untenable. Perh

In any spot in the country, you can look up and see aircraft, or contrails, every day, all day. Unless near an airport, you generally do not hear them at all. Even with boom reduction technology, booms would be heard by everyone, everyday.

We view an approval on merge request as an affirmation that the approver can be called about this code in the middle of the night. In a sense, it puts other developers with skin in the game. Lack of trust is not an issue, and if it was, it
