Twitter will likely crawl the final targets of the urls, so that when bit.ly goes out of business, the t.co urls pointing to bit.ly can get redirected to the canonical link. So I don't think it's quite as bad as you're thinking.

If you can pick startups that well, I suggest a career in venture capital as an alternative to (presumably) engineering. :)

I'd only recommend doing that once, however. After that you're better off being a founder if you like the risk, or a later employee if you don't. Being a very early employee means you get paid in knowledge and seniority, instead of equity

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlons_razor Maybe it hit an automated spam filter. Maybe the algorithm isn't time-sensitive enough. Maybe hashtags are downweighted. Also, I just looked, and "Israeli" is in the trending topics. Much ado a

For the startup I founded, I prefer Tech Support Lead. It's more reflective of the day-to day. :)

Webvia sounds like a member of the pseudo-latin naming scheme still favored by pharmaceutical companies.

True. The thing I wonder about is whether the development of sentience and culture is swinging evolution's pendulum away from the resource needs of the young, and toward valuing the experience and knowledge of the elders.

Here's a more detailed simulation that I just wrote in javascript: - I assume an error margin in our ability to evaluate employees. - I assume an applicant pool that isn't necessarily centered on z=0. - I evaluate z-scores, not percentile.

Here's a start. It's a simple ruby app that runs on heroku and proxies your twitter account, dropping uninteresting things. Extremely raw code. http://github.com/fizx/sometweets http://sometweets.heroku.com/

What's an "operation" in this context? Reading a boolean value? Incrementing a counter? Loading a 100kb document?

The basic case is that you have some friend overlap to reduce the search space. I have thought about a passphrase/secret handshake to get a confirmed connection.

Clearly this is poised to then take over from HTTP as the backbone of the internet, but by then I'll have probably started an electric car company or two and invented cold fusion.

The funny thing about this service is that users might only need a few immediate friends to join. It's not designed to keep track of your 300 acquaintances like facebook.

Good to know, thanks! Edit: I feel like I tried that, and a couple other variations, and this was the fastest. But it's worth revisiting, and I'll definitely try it again.
