I tend to disagree with this close minded judgement. Only because I’ve seen employees who I’ve written off after a few weeks become the goto brain after 6 months on the job. They exhibit a quality that can turn things around. Maybe you have

It's true. I was in close to this situation once. There were 5 developers instead of 3, and 6 managers. They fired 3 of us developers. Management are like a cult. They've all gotten to where they are because manager A has dirt on

A good list. But we have no time to work on social innovation until the bigger problems of tongue detection are solved: https://images.anandtech.com/doci/12870/Screenshot_113.png

Agreed. When I read the above article, it was one OMFG followed by another. How much more complicated do we want to make hiring? How much more complicated does hiring have to get before non-existent “training” or “probation” practices would

Probably because slander and defamation of character provide the best criteria for lawsuits. Have you thought about that? Even if this wasn’t an issue, the tech community can’t even agree on what defines a “good developer”. It’s very subjec

Deadlines. Software. Lol. Sorry, every time I marvel at how much we’ve progressed since the 90s, I hear these 2 words used together and I’m reminded that we actually haven’t.

This is well written. I’ve had the same issues with symmetric time investment, especially, and point 3. Referencing this blog post if needed in the hiring process is going to be really valuable.

Define "better offline music". I'm sure it has a great UX, but Apple's music app already gives me a pretty decent experience. Honestly, I'll continue using that unless "better" is substantial.

Please tell me where you work and how I can get a job there. Your work's culture is very rare.

Another thread where we can talk about unionizing tech workers but nothing will get done about it. I mean, myself included. I wouldn't know where to even start with attempting to form some kind of country wide or global union effort.

I agree that productivity is key, then you don't have to "overwork"! I can accomplish something in about 3-4 hours in an 8 hour work day, of what used to take me the whole day when working 12+ hours. That, to me, is productiv

The author didn’t mention exact pay, but he claimed they waste a million Euros on this team of about 10 in less than year. That should provide ballpark figures, and that doesn’t seem underpaid. Unless pay was split unfairly by the “hierarch

Because there are no junior developer jobs advertised. That’s almost not sarcastic. Realistically though there is a lot ambiguity over what defines a senior dev. If postings said 10-15 years experience or experience in building stable and c

Isn’t that the role of the scrum master? I fail to see the value that another layer of management provides vs a good scrum master... and if the scrum master isn’t any good, train them to be. I thought it was a well written article though, a

Anything longer than 2 hours is too long unless you get paid. You're automatically disadvantaging people who aren't in a position to dedicate a large amount of time to free work. Plus if say they're only offering 5% interview

This is a really bad idea letting the recruitment agency play a larger role as a gatekeeper. Recruiters have even less of an idea of what kind of technical testing would match a role than an employer, and should NEVER be trusted for this. I

I identify with your point about nepotism, but ironically references favor nepotism. People who have been lucky enough to work great mentors, and smart & supportive colleagues, are at an advantage. I personally didn't find one of t
